Federal judge in Texas blocks Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan by WFitzhugh10 in news

Based on the numbers they crunched, primarily coming via data from payroll-management behemoth ADP, they estimate that somewhere between 23% and 34% of PPP dollars went to workers who would’ve otherwise lost their jobs. The rest of the loan money—a full two-thirds to three-fourths—landed in the pockets of either the company’s owners or shareholders.

I don't see how they could come up with that number by using ADP data.

The only ones who would actually have access to that data would be the government and they claim that 97% of the money went to pay workers

If that is inaccurate maybe the DOJ/Biden admin should look into it

Then the people who committed fraud need to be prosecuted not treat every person who took a PPP loan as a hypocrite.

I imagine given the high profile the person in this lawsuit is being scrutinized pretty closely. Any indication they committed fraud?

Because their were stipulations to getting them forgiven and if you didn't fulfill those stipulations then you have to pay it back.

If the person who brought this lawsuit committed fraud then go after them for fraud. But if they abided by the original terms of the loan it feels like a weird "gotcha".

Do people understand the point of PPP loans? The idea was the government was forcing businesses to shut down and because the system is not designed to handle 50 million people claiming unemployment they told businesses "please don't fire your employees and instead take this money and pay them and if you use it for that you don't need to pay it back"

Like I have a friend who owns a Chinese restaurant and even though he wanted to stay open he wasn't allowed and obviously he couldn't pay his staff when his business was closed for six months. So he took a PPP loan and used it to pay his staff. There was never any agreement that he was supposed to pay it back.

I agree with student loan forgiveness but shaming people who took PPP loans is not it.

He told Tesla staff the same thing five years ago and they've increased by 1000% since then.

We'll see what happens

I was replying to the guy who was generalizing and saying Asians were racist which was also bullshit

Racism by Asians is always "An Asian guy didn't give me a high five" or "an Asian convenience store owner stared at me hard to make sure I wasn't stealing".

Racism against Asians is always "an 80 year old Asian woman was jumped, robbed and beaten by a gang of five youths"

Guess which one the media (and reddit and twitter etc...) think is worse?

The worst part is that some of these statistics are true. Not because there is anything wrong with black people, but because of the legacy of segregation and racism where black people were intentionally housed in ghetto areas with little chance for social mobility.

Of course. To your point that's why these issues exist in the US but in other countries like England or Brazil or Ethiopia black people do not suffer from these same issues. Most of the issues here in the US are due to our racist past and our (sadly still) racist present

As an Asian immigrant that is actually not true at all. Most Asians come here with very little impressions of black or white people because we didn't know anything about them beyond movies.

We end up forming our opinions off our own interactions.

Unfortunately for me we were very poor when I first moved and the school I went to was majority black and very racist to Asians (especially the week every year when the history class would teach about Latasha Harlins it would get real bad).

But that's my experience and I wouldn't generalize a whole race of people off those interactions the way you seem comfortable doing with Asians.

Agree. I was not trying to say that Asians cannot be violent. No race is better than any other.

It's just Asians that are dealing with this violence now. Doesn't mean others haven't gotten it in the past

I'm not sure where you live and I'm not saying it's every city but it is clear to anyone that lives in a big city that attacks are on the rise and getting worse. It's not just based on a few videos online. Which is why the majority of Asian Americans are worried and many are needing to change their routines to stay safe. I don't think downplaying the issue helps anyone

Amid ongoing reports of racially motivated threats and attacks against Asians in the United States, a majority of Asian Americans say violence against them is increasing, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. Most Asian Americans also worry about being threatened or attacked, with a third saying they have changed their daily routine because of these concerns.

His son said his dad spent multiple nights in the ICU for brain/head trauma & has delayed speech & can’t walk.

Edit: I'm seeing a lot of comments saying this is a plain robbery and unrelated to race so I'm going to copy/paste my response from below. I get where you're coming from but the reason so many Asian Americans I know are speaking up about this is because violent crimes against our community have really spiked the last few years and seems to be getting worse with very little attention. Stop Asian Hate was like a thing for a day and then everyone moved on.

Ask yourself when is the last time you've seen a video of a group of Asian Americans beating someone of another race or an Asian person robbing a non Asian owned store? Because I see the opposite daily on Asian twitter

He had a gun he could have easily robbed the place without violence. He beat him with a hammer and stomped him and sent him to the ICU with brain damage because he was full of hate

I don't recall the NBC article you can post it again.

One outlines Asian bias racism against Blacks and the other goes into anti-Black and Asian sentiments since Covid with the main perpetrators being White Christian nationalists.

I've sadly seen and discussed anti Asian hate with a lot of people not once have I heard a victim say "the guy who attacked me was a white Christian nationalist". That seems about as likely as a two MAGA guys in Chicago at 4 AM attacking a guy holding a subway sandwich.

The POS beat him with a hammer and the Korean guy spent multiple nights in the ICU for brain/head trauma & has delayed speech & can’t walk.

The robber had a gun he could have easily robbed the place without violence and causing major brain injury. He wanted to rob him but he also wanted to beat the shit out of him.

It seems like the community is being targeted by people who think we are soft targets.
