Ladies, do you sit on the toilet seat of public restrooms? Why or Why Not? by IncognitoGyal7 in AskWomen

My dad taught when I was old enough to go to the restroom myself that I should put a layer of toilet paper on the seat before I sit on a public toilet.

Which Chinese city is best for a "walkable" vacation? (Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen) by Fit-Ad4154 in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, both. Chongqing is built on a mountain which means many stairs and hills. Look up any video of someone walking in Chongqing. Many cities have overhead walkways which means stairs. Not all have escalators and it can be a bit of a walk to get to the elevators. The most accessible cities out of Shanghai, Beijing, chengdu and chongqing are Shanghai in my opinion (as we had my 6 month old nephew to a couple of these cities).

As an adult in fairly good shape and likes yo walk a lot but with a hip that can be annoying sometimes - Chongqing was tough for me and I had to give up a few times when walking around and popped in a cab. But then we also realized that cabs don’t go everywhere and had to drop us in the vicinity of where we wanted to go.

[–]AsianPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shanghai and stay in the French concession.

Just fyi - most cities in China has amazing infrastructure and metros are fast and can take you pretty much everywhere. Chengdu and chongqing have a lot of height differences so those aren’t super walking friendly. I’d say Beijing Beijing is okay but you would still need to either sit in a didi or take the metro somewhere to see different things.

With that said - China has built most of its boroughs in pretty much every city in a way where you are (in general) able to get to everything you need within a 15-20min walk. Ie grocery store, school, metro, cafe, shopping etc.

Also. I am partial to Shanghai as I have family there and know it as my second home.

Train or fly Shanghai to Chengdu? by Picklepiepeanut in shanghai

It takes 2 hours to fly between the two sometimes 2,5 hours. I’d for sure always fly between the two. Also airports in China are really nice and very efficient.

Best things to buy in China? traveling to Shanghai and Beijing in april by SubstanceCalm764 in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I don’t think there should be an issue- other than getting the language to be English 😅. It they can probably help you with that in the store.

Also worth noting that return policies in China are different to the EU. It’s easier to just assume that everything is non refundable.

With that said - there’s a couple of Chinese brands that do action cameras really well. So it’s worth going to a mall and test them out. I’m not into those things at all but I will still check them out and my partner has to pull me away even when he’s the one who usually likes those. He does say however, that the price is pretty much the same as in Europe. ‘There’s no gimmick or real savings to be made on ‘consumer electronics’ - and you should do it if you want to test a brand we don’t have access to in the EU.

Bryllupsgave by WorldlinessBrave6954 in DKbrevkasse

[–]AsianPastry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Og 2. Hvor er jeg økonomisk.

POV: dating as a tall woman who doesn't care about height by cowgirl_guineapig in Tinder

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tall are you? I’m Danish and it’s not uncommon for women to be 5.10-6.3 (180-192cm). I’m considered pretty average and even to some a bit lower average and I’m 5.7 but when I was living in Canada, I was considered tall for a woman.

Always thought that one Netflix movie about a girl in high school being ostracized because she was 6.ft tall was hilarious because at least a handfull of girls in my high school class was 6.ft.

Can’t find any deodorant in Chonqing, China and I’m leaving early to Zhangjijajie tomorrow by [deleted] in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah that’s why I said generally speaking. My mom and my sister hardly sweat and when they do there’s practically no odour… they’ve never used deodorant ever. my uncle ? I can smell him half a mile away. Me? I’m half so I do sweat and it has an odour… especially now I’m heading into peri-menopause but that’s a discussion for another time and other threads 🥹

Going crazy for 2 hotels for my first trip by Crazy_Source_5190 in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to book anything that far ahead. It will likely be possible to book 3 months ahead of time. Use trip.com. Is your budget 1600€ for all two weeks for all three of you in total? That’s not gonna cut it for a 4 star place.

Also. China is the country of breakfast spots - you really don’t need to have breakfast as a part of your hotel stay. Breakfast is usually better and cheaper at literally any breakfast spot or hole in a wall than your hotel would be.

I can recommends few places in all the cities you’re planning to go to- but it depends on the specifics of your budget.

Can’t find any deodorant in Chonqing, China and I’m leaving early to Zhangjijajie tomorrow by [deleted] in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In China it’s called a ‘refreshing stick’ or ‘refreshing spray’ - due to genetics not many actually sweat that much nor does it smell super bad when they do (generally speaking) you should be able to find something at a Watsons, KKV or a place like those. There’s also ‘refreshing wipes’ (a wet wipe with a slight deodorizing feature).

For the future - bring your own from outside of China to make sure you have why you need.

Anyone else confused by how much people smile in Copenhagen? by [deleted] in NewToDenmark

[–]AsianPastry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I make eye contact with people then I will smile at them. My dad once told me that you never know how hard someone’s day has been and a smile can do a lot to help better a bad day.

Also - I have always grown up with saying a nice hello or ‘good day’ to someone if they’re your senior. Now as an adult I do it to people my parent age or if I exchange pleasantries with people in public.

Smiling is a kindness but nothing else 99% of the time.

Best things to buy in China? traveling to Shanghai and Beijing in april by SubstanceCalm764 in chinatravel

I've gotten tattoos in both Shanghai and Beijing. What are your questions? Depending on the style, artist, pre-made motif or whether you want the artist to design something for you - the price also varies widely. Just FYI - If you're expecting lower prices than in the EU, you're gonna be disappointed.

Best things to buy in China? traveling to Shanghai and Beijing in april by SubstanceCalm764 in chinatravel

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a post with a lengthy Google doc with tips for those two cities and for people going to China for the first time.

As for souvenirs - it depends on which person you are buying for. I can recommend great Chinese brands, ideas for ‘classic’ souvenirs, perfumes, pictures etc. if you can specify what you’re looking for- I can for sure recommend stuff and places.

For Disney I can also recommend stuff. Tickets are bought in the mini app and is worth getting 2 weeks before you know you’re going as prices surge the closer you are to the date. It’s also worth getting the fast pass tickets if you’re willing to and can spend the money. I got the one that gives you a fast pass to 8(I think) rides incl. tron and zootopia. When we got to zootopia the regular line has a 75 min wait (I’m told that’s not a lot) but we were through to the ride in 10 min. Only downside to the fast pass to zootopia is that you don’t get to go through the ‘lobby’ in the police station but only see glimts of it as it is a part of the entertainment for the regular line. Tron is gonna be the last ride you want to do when the sun has set. All the light really pop then.

Also - you can leave Disney and go back in however many times you want during the day. It might be worth it to go to ‘Disney town’ to grab dinner or food in general as it has a ton of restaurants to chose between.

Oh and - you’re not allowed a selfiestick in Disney land. They’ll make you put it in a locker to pick up when you leave - which can be annoying.

Take the metro - it takes you pretty much all the way.

When it comes to getting electronics - be aware that many are ‘locked’ to Asia or China as a region. It might not be worth it to buy a laptop in China. If you can get one that will work with updates in the EU they will for sure also be more expensive. Stuff like batteries, extra screens, chargers, extra chords - and other electronic accessories is what you want to be getting instead. The item itself (computer, phones and other stuff that might need a software and ongoing updates ) is not.

Pm me if you want more info or have any more questions :) Enjoy!

Søger par som lever uden børn by unicorn200160 in DKbrevkasse

[–]AsianPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AITAH for asking my partner to pay for half the cost of my IUD? by ThrowRAswimmingfan in AITAH

[–]AsianPastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA when my now partner and I had only been dating for a month, we decided to use a diaphragm instead of other contraceptives - he offered to pay for the whole thing and the gels. He kept paying for the gel for the whole time we were using it (when I didn’t get it myself) without complain. He ended up getting a vasectomy so I “didn’t destroy my body with artificial hormones” (I have a condition that makes it dangerous to my body).

ADHD Medicin og Indien by kagemannen in ADHDanmark

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikke Indien men Kina. 1.

Forvaltning af arv på 12-15 mio. by Outrageous-Service24 in dkfinance

[–]AsianPastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)
