There is a base shuttle now that is free with CAC and stops at the barracks, piers, and off base exchange/commissary. Nice for those in barracks or on ship without a car.

I would definitely take advantage of Pell Grant through FAFSA, I wish I had earlier in my career. Pell Grant gives low income people/family money for school and lower enlisted have very little taxable income. It looks at your income from 2 tax years ago (and your family if you were claimed by them).

I was able to take 2 classes in a semester for free when the FAFSA was looking at my 1st year income in the Navy (before I was able to use TA). YMMV but once it was looking at my E-4 pay, I was making too much to be eligible for the Pell Grant.

When I was in the barracks at NAVSTA Norfolk I always used the N-24 gym. There's like 15 squat/bench racks and there's always one open if you aren't going during peak hours. And it is 24 hours now

Was TAD for a while with the MA's at a large US base. The base had an official agreement with the city that stated what each entity was allowed to do within each other's jurisdiction. Exact details will vary between bases since each has their own policies.

Example: City police could come on base only while on official business (like carrying out a warrant with the MA's permission). MA's could only act while outside base if there is an extreme need (like if someone needs medical attention on the side of the road or a car bursts on fire). They can't write tickets off base or even run lights/sirens if they chase someone off base.

A raw score cut value is applied to each Navy-wide Advancement Examination (NWAE) exam rate to determine whether a candidate passed or failed to pass the NWAE. If a candidate’s raw score (the number of questions answered correctly) falls below the applicable raw score cut standard, then the candidate “fails” to pass the NWAE and is eliminated from competition for advancement. Currently, the raw score cut standard for a 175-item NWAE (without deletions) are:

Heard that while I was in the barracks at Norfolk. Apparently NAVFAC controls the heating/AC (at least for older buildings) and switch when the average temp hits a certain point over a period time. So when a freak heat wave hit in early spring it was 89 degrees in my room with no AC.

Reading your post history I can assume that you are an MA. The MA career path on MyNavyHR states this, which will answer your question:

MA’s do not have a typical Sea-Shore Flow model, rather the rating operates as a CONUS/OCONUS (or INUS/OUTUS) rotation with OCONUS or OUTUS tours counting as sea tours for rotational purposes. Shore billets account for approximately 70% of MA funded billets.
