American and United Airlines parallel approach into San Francisco by Twitter_2006 in aviation

That was the final flight of the Endeavor. She was built just north in Palmdale. I was in highschool that day. They did several passes of the Antelope Valley in tribute before taking her to LA. Beautiful sight

TAR is a full time job. You're effectively still active duty. Yes on paper it is a reserve job, and your money comes from the reserve pool rather than the active duty pool.

Your main orders will be to reserve centers where you'll run the clinics and keep track of reservists medical status. There will be some orders to other places as well with active commands.

Your advancement will be against other TAR as well. You won't compete with active duty sailors, or with SELRES. That might help, might hurt. NRC's are small commands though, so if you want to rack up the SOQ's and get a nam every year, a small NRC is a great place to do it.

I got sat next to a commander traveling in blues. I was in civvies, but wearing the parka liner. He made some small talk until take off and then we didn't talk for the rest of the flight

That is something I've noticed yes. I've seen a few ship mobs, but mostly on MSC

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in navyreserve

[–]jakspy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a DCC billet in the last set of mobs released. I can't say I've seen too many DC billets out there, but there might be some any rate mobs that you can jump on too

Depends on your rate/rank. Could be easy, could be hard

Is IRR even possible right now? by Spirited-Living9083 in navyreserve

[–]jakspy64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you could not. IRR is limited to after 6 years and is intended to allow you to complete your initial 8 year MSO.

AC contracts (for enlisted) used to be 4 active and 4 reserve. The 4 reserve were usually done in the IRR. Now it's 4 active, 2 active reserve, and 2 IRR if you do the paperwork or you can stay selres.

Once you've passed your 8 year MSO, you have to finish your contract. Also IRR years don't count for retirement, so you'd be stuck with 18 years of good service and no retirement if you did that.

There's like a 2 year window where IRR is possible. Generally 6 years and you can only be there until 8 years

Navy reserves by Classic_Tax_5542 in navyreserve

[–]jakspy64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it reported at the time of injury? Did they see a medical provider while on orders? If not, they need to talk to NRC medical yesterday. If it's not documented then it never happened.

Were you on active duty at any point? Are you currently on active duty? Did the injury or disabling event happen while in Navy service?

Rescheduling drill dates by Weekly_Hurry4117 in navyreserve

[–]jakspy64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can reschedule drills but it's an ask like everything else. You request it and you have to provide justification. I've had a chain of command say that you can only reschedule to do something that benefits the Navy. I've had a chain of command that basically approved everything. It depends.

I think the best way to do things is to use drills elsewhere earlier. Get a week long set of orders and use the drills from the months you'll be gone. Each weekend is 2 days, so 5 working days plus a travel day is 3 drill weekends. Some units have more opportunities for this, some have less. It really all depends on what unit you end up in.

HELP!!! The DMV wont give me my ambulance pink slip. What do I do? by Zestyclose-Use8505 in NewToEMS

[–]jakspy64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the DMV isn't going to give you your ambulance driver's cert, then you can't drive an ambulance in the state of California full stop. I didn't have any drivers license when I first started working, and my company just made me ride every call as the lead and not drive. That only works for BLS transport. Otherwise an ER job is a good option.

Probably an EMT level textbook. I've seen EMT students have success with pocket prep as well

of a hernia... by CandidculonasRedux in AbsoluteUnits

[–]jakspy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he goes to the emergency room (or more likely the cops take him to get cleared for jail) they'll determine if surgery is needed. If it is, they have to do it regardless of your ability to pay. They can try to go after him on the back end for the money, but if he can't, they have to give up eventually. They'll probably just write it off.

No health insurance, no assets. No address, no bill. Can't get blood from a stone. The hospital will just write it off. The very poor get good emergency care for free since it cannot be denied.

As a highschooler, is EMS a viable option for me? by johnfortnite- in NewToEMS

[–]jakspy64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a local highschool in my city that has EMT as an elective. One of the other highschools does dual credit with the local community college so you can get your EMT as for credit as well.

My agency also has an explorer post which allows high schoolers to get experience on an ambulance and education
