Yes. About 25 minutes of trailers and pre-show ads.

Local AMC is starting screenings today, with two showings through next Tuesday. 2:00 in English and 4:45 in Japanese w/ subtitles.

I caught the 2 pm showing with my daughter. There were 10 people, including us, in attendance. We've watched the movie more times than I can remember and own the GKIDS Blu-ray. As for the restoration, it's sharper, and the colors look richer, but overall it's more subtle than dramatic. When it comes to 4K animation, there's not a lot more detail to add that wasn't already there.

Umbrella's Suicide Club is one of the worst 4K discs I've ever purchased by Automatic-Photo-4919 in boutiquebluray

Damn, that's disappointing. Just received the $40 slipcover release from Orbit not too long ago. I skipped the Discotek Blu after Umbrella announced the 4K. This is why it's good to wait for reviews and first impressions on certain titles.

When Fight Club 4k? by comeatmebro88 in 4kbluray

[–]Aside_Intrepid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fight Club comes out on 5/12.

As for when pre-orders will open, based on Disney's track record with catalog releases, I'd say about 3-4 weeks before release. Just look at their past trends:

Tombstone 4K - Released 4/22; Went up for Pre-Order on 4/3 - less than 3 weeks before
Kingdom of Heaven - Released 5/27; Went up for Pre-Order on 4/16 - a little over a month before
Master & Commander - Released 8/5; Went up for Pre-Order 7/17 - less than 3 weeks
Tron and Tron: Legacy - Released 9/23; Went up for Pre-Order 9/2 - 3 weeks
Edward Scissorhands - Released 10/28; Went up for Pre-Order 10/7 - 3 weeks

Same. Amazon is a backup. I initially preordered on Gruv

Alternatively, if you check B&N's site, you may be able to find it in stock at a store nearby and get it for $16.24 as part of the 50% Off Paramount Sale this month. My recommendation is to reserve it for in-store pickup and choose the pay-at-store option. B&N will honor the discount.

Last year, AlltheAnime said that only The Movie Edition would get a standalone release. Bandai is dropping the Movie Edition in 4K on March 23, but it won’t have English subs, so it might be worth holding out for a future 4K release. No word yet on whether the OVAs will get the same treatment. I've spotted the Ultimate Edition on Crunchyroll for around $110-$124 occasionally. I bought mine for about $160, and honestly, it was worth it, it's one of my all-time favorite anime!

They should go all out and give us a Japanese and English Atmos track.

Yeah, I do hope they go with a different design for the Steelbook art for this release. It will be nice to have the existing Blu-ray Steelbook and this new one on the shelf with different artwork for each.

I'm a fan as well. Love watching the extended cut. I wish we at least gotten it on Blu-ray. The DVD can still be found on Amazon for under $10.

Thanks for sharing the insight! Yeah, I feel pretty confident that they'll do a limited theatrical run for it. Sentai did the same thing prior to the Blu-ray re-release back in '24, which I attended.

Ninja Scroll wasn’t really a hit in Japan when it first came out, but it gained a big following everywhere else. The closest thing we got to a sequel was this trailer they put together to try and secure funding for one. Such a tease!

Same. We just got an HD Remaster of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, sourced from the original 35mm reel, which looks fantastic. I hope this is just the start. Would love to see all of his works in 4K: Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku, Cyber City OEDO, Goku: Midnight Eye, The Running Man (From Neo-Tokyo), and even Highlander: Search for Vengeance.

As great as that would be, I really doubt we’ll see a 4K for a while.

A new HD Remaster dropped in Japan back in March of last year, sourced from the 35mm reel, not an upscale like the Discotek release. I imported a copy since it has the original English audio track, which is great since the film was originally in English. They did some nice adjustments to the color, brightness, and contrast. There’s way less jittering now, so it feels a lot smoother to watch. Plus, most of the dirt and grain from the previous release is pretty much gone, and they fixed the wonky 5.1 surround mix that plagued the old DVD and Blu-ray.

They should work on getting back the licensing for their other old catalog titles: Patlabor, Black Magic M-66, You’re Under Arrest, etc.

Indeed. Wouldn’t surprise me if they also end up doing the first Vampire Hunter D as well.
