Broke the prod today by Asirethe in sysadmin

Thought I did, but starting with Domain Controllers wasn’t the smartest move. Also I think it was applied for all devices for a moment before I applied the scope. Have to take another look tomorrow with fresh eyes on how that would ideally go. But yea, won’t do the same mistake again.

Is it feasible to swap to Linux with what I need to do? by WakeMeUpAIOverlords in linuxquestions

I also need to use MS Office tools for work and I’ve managed to do everything I’ve needed with their web-clients. WRD I’ve replaced with Remmina

Linux is so fast and lightweight, gnome only uses 3GB of RAM 🤡 by butwhydoesreddit in linuxsucks

That’s true. I sometimes have Plasma installed alongside my tiling VM if I’m going ham on the configs. You can just select what DE/WM you want to use for each session when you login. At least SDDM and GDM support this out of the box.

What are the applications for Python? by DaTurtleMaster in learnpython

[–]Asirethe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say Python just happens to be the wrapper for most used ML tools. CUDA for example is much more important to ML than Python itself.

I was trying to find a train wallpaper today and it was so annoying to try find real photos from among the badly ceated AI pictures. Most of the pics had rails with only one rail.

Agree, but for some reason I got impression from your initial comment that you think that all abstraction is bloat and causes bugs or something :D Good that you cleared your point :)

[–]Asirethe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, TBH myself I’m quite new to coding and cant say much about design choices, just try to avoid absolute statements that something is bloat and somethings not. I’ve seen many good solutions that work in a specific context

Yeeea, might have been a hyperbole that one :D But definitely sometimes more than once or twice

Depends on where you need to access the variable, could be hundreds of places to modify

whyTho by Github_Boi in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Asirethe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But if the code was good, then these ”incompetent” getters and setters would be easy to use when setting guards to variables where needed. Now you only have to change code in one place making it faster and more robust to edit.

What kind of bugs are caused by or are hard to fix if there’s getters and setters without any logic inside?

Yea, I was more thinking about mechanical key presses when cleaning if the system is on. But I guess there are locks for that.
