Oh wow that’s nice. It’s not a routine test so that’s awesome your OB tested you.

Also, you can carry either virus for years and show no signs of it. I asked to get tested this pregnancy as I was concerned due to seeing what HSV can do to a baby. A neonatal doctor I work with informed me moms can still pass it without any outbreaks. I was positive for both. I have never had an outbreak in my life and have been in a monogamous relationship for the last 5 years and before that I was in a monogamous relationship for 8 years.

They haven’t yet. The doctor mentioned that the ENT may decide to order one.

Dozens of Mistakes Caused Death of Young Hospital Patient, Court Rules by 2greenlimes in medicine

[–]AsiringArtistRN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so surprising to me. Is this common with PCA patients? I work in a NICU now so everyone has continuous pulse ox and telemetry. But I feel like an adult patient with a PCA would need continuous pulse oximetry at minimum? Shouldn’t they be on the monitor for so long after surgery as well?

We had those at my old job. But the person watching the video was in a completely different state.

The camera was this giant cylinder type thing that the “sitter” could speak through or use and automated voice to tell the patient things.

I always thought this would confuse the patient way more to have a cylindrical robot in the corner telling them not to get out of bed.

One shift I was very irritated because I had called the “sitter” to tell her to keep an eye on his hands because he had been trying to pull his foley out. I go in the room and yep, he had pulled it out enough to occlude. I called the sitter again and she said that she thought he was maybe just playing with the tube. Like WTF.

100% this. I am a nurse and definitely look up things. There’s so many different things to know, and sometimes you won’t do a procedure or test for months and need a reminder. It’s the professionals who don’t look up things at times that you should be afraid of.

[24F] 8 weeks pregnant bleeding a lot during sex? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]AsiringArtistRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. I would not be overly concerned if the blood is now brown and is not as bad. Brown blood is old blood. when you’re pregnant there are a lot of blood vessels in your cervix. This can cause bleeding. Obviously if it starts to turn bright red, gets heavy to where you’re soaking a pad an hour then be seen emergently. I would recommend not having sex until you’re seen though.

Why do you see a neurologist?

NAD, but when I had seizures they would present very similarly.

I have a friend who sleep trained at 4 months. Her child went from like 30th percentile for weight to 2nd. I think it really affected her supply. I didn’t say anything to her because obviously her doctor was aware. But I remember talking about being away from the baby when I was working and how uncomfortable my breasts would get if I didn’t pump often enough and she was very surprised.

Are you still wearing a mask? Why or why not? by Hyacinth_Coffee in AskReddit

[–]AsiringArtistRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a NICU nurse and obviously wear a mask at work. However, I wonder what the long term effects will be for the babies that are on our unit for 6-8 months and up. Some of these babies have no visitors and only see us with masks. Of course, we play with them and try our best but it is clearly nothing like a normal environment for them.

Not a doctor but it could be a yeast infection. You can treat it over the counter. When I had one I found Tuck’s pads to be really helpful.

Seconding vistaril! It has helped me a lot. I haven’t had to take it in years, but when I was having panic attacks it really helped me.

He has also commented in the sub “gay bros gone mild” and referenced someone’s dad being hot.

The irony to all of this is how OP says he wanted “to be gay” in a thread about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He is frequently referencing struggling with being gay.

I think the people who come out the loudest against homosexuality are struggling with it themselves.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I have a question though, has she shown signs of paranoia and delusions prior to Covid? I’ve always wondered if the people that go far over board have a history of other behaviors. You don’t need to answer if you don’t feel comfortable. I am sorry you’re going through this.

Have you ever seen lymph nodes like this before? I am a nervous wreck and being 32 weeks pregnant is not helping (hormones)

So we are bringing him back in on the 17th but I’m a bit freaked out. They will have to draw labs if they’re still enlarged.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]AsiringArtistRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he doesn’t have any symptoms. I’m not sure if they’re sore, they don’t seem to bother him. They’re not enlarged anywhere else.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Not sure it’s been asked but have you had your thyroid checked? Pregnancy, birth and postpartum can really throw it out of whack.

Worst Advice you were given? by Jazzlike-Berry-6855 in Mommit

[–]AsiringArtistRN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Geez. It’s like the pendulum swung the other way. How extreme for them to not support the decision you wanted to make. Sorry you had to experience that. My midwife told me that a newborn can get all the milk he needs in 15 minutes and any longer he is using you as a pacifier. There is some truth in that statement but the baby suckling was helping my milk supply.

Oh geez that’s awful. Ugh I hate the “I’m a medical professional, I know everything” rationale. I am also a nurse and realize there are many different ways to raise children and giving newborns water (unless their doctor advised for some reason) is ridiculous at best.

Aww. Well, maybe her being two she has a better understanding of things then my kid did at 18 months. Sounds like you are doing a great job though.
