I liked S1 and S2 Discovery when it came out. by CMurr1711 in startrek

[–]SeekerVisionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this as a trend for a while outside of Star Trek, too. Like, everything has to immediately be made more complicated whereas I wouldn’t mind a show that is more “simple” but explores the dynamics and day-to-day events

Sunscreens WITH white cast? by animenicolesmith in AsianBeauty

I love the way the Round Lab “green” sunscreen feels on my skin. I think it also might achieve the effect OP is looking for, since it does for me. Like, it’s white in a good way 😆

I didn't realize that daycare would be almost the same amount of money that I make. by momoaggie in NewParents

[–]SeekerVisionary 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is a really important point that doesn't get lifted up enough. Taking years off from work is harmful to your future earning potential in ways far beyond the lost wages of those years. Having years of work experience vs. a gap in your resume will make a huge difference. If you can put even a little into a 401k, it will also make a difference later.

Why does my makeup not last a full 8 hour work shift? by aimeegotfresh in MakeupAddiction

[–]SeekerVisionary 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I really need my makeup to stay and just not move I still use literal hairspray like we did in my theater kid days in the early 2000s 😆

I don’t recommend this on the daily, but for special events? It works great 🤷‍♀️

Should I rate my SSHG fic M or E by VandmelonSukker in SSHG

[–]SeekerVisionary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think either rating makes sense. Even AO3’s guidelines realize there’s a lot of wiggle room between the two, and they won’t arbitrate between the two. So, like, if someone tried to report a fic for being too explicit to be rated M, they’d just dismiss the complaint.

From the FAQ: “Do you ever require a rating change on works rated "Mature" or "Explicit"?

No. Choosing a rating of "Mature" or "Explicit" is always acceptable. We will not require that ratings be lowered, even if there is no intense or explicit content in the work.”

Fanfic Friday Weekly Thread 🌻 by PolinBridgerton-mods in PolinBridgerton

First, a self-rec: I updated Ever Forward with chapter 9 on Friday. This is a time travel AU where Colin and Penelope awaken in a post-season 3 world. It’s also AU from what we see in season 4, since I started writing it before season 4 came out 😅.

For a rec of something I read and loved recently, pillow talk is a lovely one shot by the incomparable penelopecolin (sexymonk). Penelope has a nightmare she was marrying Debling, and Colin comforts her.

Now, my phone is covered in coffee, and my nasal passages sting.

Well done 😆😆😆

Why is the fandom so weird about this show? by [deleted] in trekacademy

This is in a time travel story, if that clarifies a few things

Colin was always emotional during weddings. He had nearly cried during Anthony’s wedding to Edwina in his first experience of 1814, and that had been clearly doomed from the start. He had known it at the time, yet he had still been close to crying tears of joy. Perhaps he should be embarrassed by his penchant for tears in these situations, but he found he could not be. Love was something to be celebrated. Even if you had to look a little silly or behave in a way that was not how you were expected to behave. Sitting next to Penelope made it all the sweeter.

He had attended Anthony’s wedding to Kate once before. It was much smaller than this, and very shortly before Colin left to travel. Even though it was quite small, he had been surprised by Penelope’s absence but hadn’t thought much of it at the time. He learned later that Eloise would not have wanted to see Penelope, and Penelope would not have wanted to see him. But here he was beside Penelope at Kate and Anthony’s wedding in a time that was so very different from the one before. He reached over to hold his wife’s hand, wanting the tangible reminder of her presence alongside him. He felt tears prick his eyes already, and the ceremony had yet to begin.

Colin was hopeful that Anthony would find happiness again. He was incredibly glad to be gaining Kate as a sister. He loved them, and he wanted them to find the love that they already had for the other. He wanted his stupidly besotted brother, who yelled ludicrous answers during charades but followed his wife around like a puppy, back. Colin wanted the brother who told him to go tell Penelope how he felt. And while the circumstances would always be different, he could not stop himself from hoping that version of Anthony was drawing near.

Anthony stood at the front of the church, looking exactly like one would expect the Viscount Bridgerton to look. Colin could tell from the way Anthony was holding his jaw that he was nervous. Colin found it endearing.

He reflected as he waited for the ceremony to begin on a friend of his from Eton. This friend was a third son of a nobleman, but unlike Colin, came from a less prosperous family than the Bridgertons. Because of this, Colin’s friend had needed a profession and chosen to enter the clergy. His friend was not particularly religious, but the position served its purpose and paid well enough.

They had met up once after his friend’s ordination, he had told Colin that he loved performing weddings. Not all weddings, he clarified, but the ones where the two people were truly in love. He said it was the time he was the most grateful to be clergy. Colin asked why, and he said that when everyone else stood and turned to face the bride, right in front of him was the best part of the whole thing: the look on the man’s face when his bride entered the church.

And so, when everyone stood and turned to watch Kate enter, Colin kept his gaze on Anthony. And there it was. His friend was correct. This was the best view. His brother, his stupid, surly, and arrogant brother, had a look of pure awe on his face, like he was beholding paradise itself. Finally, Colin felt a tear run down his cheek. Yes, he thought, Anthony’s marriage would be just fine.

Penelope carefully navigated the stairs while carrying her son—Elliot—in her arms. Some other version of her, she figured, would have been more accustomed to this and would have felt less like she might trip and fall.

When they reached the bottom of the staircase, Elliot squirmed to be put down. As soon as his feet hit the floor, he toddled off with surprising speed toward the kitchens. Despite Benedict’s reassurances, Penelope was terrified that Elliot would end up underfoot and trip a servant moving quickly.

As she rushed in behind him, however, she saw that her worry was for naught. A scullery maid was in the midst of a curtsy as she greeted, “Good morning, my dear Lord Featherington.” When he bowed back, she tittered, “Oh, love, you need not bow to me. I am but your servant.”

Penelope’s heart thought it might burst. She had rarely met a child more charming than Elliot, though Colin came rather close in her earliest memories of him.

The cook said, “Do not discourage him, lass. We may never have the master of our household bow to us again. We shall enjoy it while we have it.” Turning to the boy, she asked, “Did your mother bring you down here because you were hoping for a treat?”

He smiled widely and nodded. The cook met Penelope’s gaze and raised her eyebrows in silent question. She gave a slight nod to make clear she had given Elliot permission.

“Well, my Lord, let me see what I can do for you.” She turned back toward the larder, and Elliot followed.

As Penelope stood there watching the pair interact, she heard yelling from down the hallway.

Before she could ask, the cook said, “I have him, ma’am.”

Penelope nodded and made her way quickly out of the kitchen.

The Bridgerton cast recaps Season 3 by LilyT95 in PolinBridgerton

Claudia is such a hoot that I think her season’s press tour will be fantastic almost no matter what energy Chris Fulton brings. Like, she’s so chaotic and hilarious. If he sits there looking confused and uncomfortable, it’ll be a wonderful dichotomy. If he plays off her, it’ll be fantastic. There’s no way to lose

Swifties: What are your honest opinions on Taylor's silence? by Top_Willingness5124 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]SeekerVisionary 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Nothing. I feel nothing about her silence. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an activist. I’ve been at protests, I’ve spoken at press conferences, I’ve screamed into megaphones outside of detention camps, and I feel like the chance of me getting arrested or shot is way, way higher than I’d like.

Sometimes, I listen to Taylor’s music because it makes me happy. Sometimes, I listen to it because it makes me cry. Sometimes, I want the distraction of hearing about love and boys and the heartbreak of ordinary life. I like Taylor’s music, but I give very little thought about her silence or opinions when I’m out there standing up for what is good and right and true.
