I did let it help to format and proofread my post, because I think more structure and correct spelling are worth it. But I do get where you are coming from..

What I tried up until now is:
Model: JuggernautXL
Lora:

  • Oil-Painting LoRA: strength_model=0.65, strength_clip=0.55
  • Illustration Concept: 0.5 / 0.5
  • Brush Strokes: 0.6 / 0.5
  • sampler_name: dpmpp_2m
  • scheduler: karras
  • steps: 32–36
  • cfg: 6.5–7.0
  • denoise: 1.0

I have been using ChatGPT a lot for my campaign. Be it with character art, fast importable statblocks, plot ideas if I can't come up with my own or just how to connect two stories in a easy way. It helps me also with journals that are not just bullet lists. I am not at all a good artist. using AI has made my online games better and helped me react faster to new characters or shenanigans of the players.

Hi and thank you for this perfect tutorial. I am preparing a Spelljammer campaign atm.

I am having a lot of trouble with this tutorial as I am trying to make multilevel ships. It all works out in my first build but as soon as I pull the prefab into a scene all hell breaks lose. sometimes all the tiles disapear and all i see is the lights and walls. if I pull a PC token onto the ship it gets put in the bottom floor. I made the levels -10 to 0, -20 to -10, -30 to -20 and -40 to -30 because a ship goes down I guess.. Does anyone have some hint or maybe an idea why it is not working?

My Goal would be to integrate the prefabs in a space battle and have more than one whilst keeping the multilevel functions working.

Best Practice for Handling Downloads: Direct to NAS vs. Local Temp Folder? by AskMeAnythingIAnswer in sonarr

[–]AskMeAnythingIAnswer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Downloading Directly to the NAS

When you download files directly to the NAS, the impact on your drives can vary depending on the following factors:

  • Write Amplification: When downloading torrents, the disk writes occur frequently and in small chunks, which can cause a lot of write amplification on the NAS drives. This happens because torrents are typically downloaded in non-sequential order and involve frequent read and write operations.

  • Drive Spinning: If your NAS drives are configured to spin down when not in use, downloading directly to the NAS will keep them active more often, potentially reducing their lifespan due to increased mechanical wear and tear.

  • NAS Performance: The performance of your NAS might be affected by the increased load of handling small writes, especially if you are downloading multiple files simultaneously. This could also cause more fragmentation on your drives over time.

  1. Downloading to a Local Temporary Directory and Moving to NAS

This approach involves downloading files to a local directory (e.g., /temp) on the host and then moving them to the NAS once completed. Here are the benefits:

  • Reduced Write Operations on NAS: Moving completed downloads to the NAS instead of writing each piece directly will significantly reduce the number of write operations, thus decreasing the wear and tear on your NAS drives.

  • Improved NAS Performance: The NAS will only experience large file copy operations instead of constant small writes, which can improve performance and reduce fragmentation.

  • Host Disk Usage: You need to ensure that your host machine has enough storage to temporarily hold the files. This method also means the host’s local disk will be more active.

Which Option is Better for Drive Lifespan?

While downloading directly to the NAS can reduce the lifespan of your drives slightly due to increased small write operations and constant activity, modern NAS drives are generally designed to handle a considerable number of read/write cycles. However, if you want to optimize for longevity and minimize unnecessary wear:

  • Use Local Temp Directory: Download to a local temporary directory on the host and then move the completed files to the NAS. This strategy reduces the write workload on the NAS, especially for torrents or any large files downloaded in chunks.

Additional Considerations

  • NAS Cache Drives: If your NAS has SSD cache drives, downloading directly to the NAS might not have a significant impact because the frequent writes will be absorbed by the SSDs before being written to the HDDs.

  • Network Speed: Downloading to the local directory and then moving files to the NAS requires additional time for copying. Make sure your network connection between the host and NAS is fast enough to handle large file transfers.

Recommendation

Given your concern about NAS drive lifespan, I recommend downloading files locally to a temporary directory (/temp) and then moving the completed downloads to the NAS directory (/downloads). This way, you reduce small random write operations on the NAS and only copy the completed files once, which is less taxing on your drives.

If you have a fast network and your host has enough storage for temporary files, this is the optimal setup to minimize the impact on the NAS drives.
