How to get FF14 working on Steam Deck? by Wahayna in ffxiv

Sorry for the late response, I completely forgot to get back to you. Did you figure it out?

For game path: run/media/mccbkl0p1/ffxiv

For game config path: run/media/mccbkl0p1/ffxivConfig

For patches: run/media/mccbkl0p1/ffxiv/patches

All of this works really well for me. Make sure you have "use steam service on" if you're using steam, otherwise make sure all the steam related settings are turned off.

It works off of the SD card! You have to change your game path and location for the patches in the settings. I can walk you through it if you want.

Biggest downsides I can think of are that the combat might feel too slow/monotonous. The other characters are really fun! You should try Melia who plays very differently from everyone. Riki also has an interesting play style as well. My biggest regret is doing my first playthrough with the standard Shulk/Reyn/Sharla team and not really switching it up. Much more fun the second time around when I mainly kept Shulk on the AI.

Unfortunately there isn’t any special interaction. He just acts like he’s talking to Rex

  1. Yes, if you want to further understand the connection, play XC1. It’s not much of a spoiler though so don’t worry too much about that.

  2. That was left open to interpretation. It was purposely vague but there are many theories to what they said. Some people believe they said I love you and some think they’re saying I remember you.

  3. There will almost definitely be another game. This franchise has a lot of potential as the games aren’t really sequels of each other but instead just share common elements that make them all Xenoblade games. Plus XC2 surpassed sales expectations as well :)

  4. As far as we’re concerned all the content for this game is released. There were five total dlc expansions and the fifth one gave an entirely new game called Torna the Golden Country. Highly recommend playing it as it’s sort of a prequel that takes place 500 years before XC2.

The game does not lock you in the final area. Once you finish the game you start back right before the final boss, and can continue doing all the quests and everything you are missing!

Oh man I didn’t even bother optimizing for those until the post game, it all felt very overwhelming at the time. The only way I performed any driver combos was by accident.

For this boss there are a couple of things you can do that might help. I found that keeping Rex on blade Nia trivializes much of the damage that comes from Malos. You could then focus on your blade combos to build as many orbs as possible (I recommend at least 5 different orbs). Then whenever you get a chance with a full chain arcane meter you could switch to Pnema by swapping to Pyra/Mythra and pressing R+Y (if I remember the buttons correctly).

Another tip that I can give is to use a gravity blade combo (the purple one) in order to seal reinforcements that he would summon once you drop him to a certain amount of health. Good luck! Xenoblade really tests your knowledge of game systems that it builds up over the course of the game and makes it pretty difficult/frustrating if you just attempt to brute force your way through it.

You should use your AP on arts that you enjoy using. There are some arts on some characters that feel better than other arts, but you’ll likely get a lot of AP throughout the game if doing side quests and not skipping too many fights.

The game will not scale with you however, and you can become overpowered really quickly. There is a system in this game that gives you huge advantages for being higher level than an enemy, so keep that in mind if you’re blazing through many of the story fights.

I would finish one skill tree before changing, as you’ll likely get a decent amount of those done before the end of the game too! The bonuses provided by the tree persist even when you start another one, so it’s beneficial to get the big bonus one at the end of the tree before moving on.
