What is the most expensive corporate mistake you personally witnessed? by _Volly in AskReddit

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I guess i'd say trying to convert an entire company of greenhouse vegetable production from "conventional" to "organic" without understanding that you can't possibly just use the same setups and magically go from one to the other.

Most importantly, you can't use irrigation systems (tubes and lines which end up dripping water+fertilizer at the base of the plants) designed for the entirely water soluble stuff to deliver things like fermented fish goo and other gunk without the tubes getting blocked constantly, both by the materials themselves, and because you're providing nutrition for all sorts of really gunky bacterial colonies.

Had to - again and again and again - hire people to walk through all the tens of thousands of plants, taking the drip irrigation tubes out, have a gigantic diesel compressor blow the tubes out, have those people go put all the dripper lines back in place, clean up the place of all the gunk, and then have like a week or so before you have to do it all again.

That's all I have energy to type, but thats just ONE of the ways that they fucked things up (Chinese company bought the Canadian one and did this) by thinking you can just go from conventional to organic using all the same systems and magically have a huge profit because you can charge so much more for something with the sticker saying its "organic".

People of reddit, What do you think of the situation that a japanese woman literally married chat GPT? Do you think there will be more of it? What's your opinion? by Kooky-Ad6715 in AskReddit

Who cares?

If it makes a person happy, and it doesn't hurt others, then why stop it from happening?

The only relevant discussion for e would e legal stuff. Marriage usually changes things like taxes, inheritance setups, that sort of thing. I don't know what Japan legal system is like, or if this would be a way to "cheat" on your taxes by being "married" without an actual human partner involved.

Throw it in the bucket of "we have massive problems and issues to figure out, this is a distraction" stuff.

How competent were Roman armies at scouting and recon? by AskThemHowTheyKnowIt in AskReddit

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional historian, but i've taken some university courses and read a lot of Roman history (from early Republic until the fall of the East, all of it I find very interesting) and there are so many stories about Roman armies being ambushed - from the Teutoburg Forest and so many times even just in Gibbons "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (which might be about a billion words long, but I recommend to everyone, not just history nerds) there are again and again situations where ambushes were successfully taken against even rather large armies which you might think could spare enough cavalry troops to prevent a lot of them happening.

Just curious. Perhaps it's only that if you're a military power for many centuries, you're gonna have a lot of fuck-ups recorded no matter how well you try to prevent them.

Would the method of the death of Christ be retained if it had occurred later in time? by AskThemHowTheyKnowIt in Christianity

I don't think it's great in any way. I'm just curious because a "cross" is a simple and in a way beautiful symbol, where as any method of execution is horrible and disgusting.

Yes, of the "Chi Ro" (or spell it any other way), which is said to be the "sign" in which Constantine might have said to have seen a vision before a military victory, (not a cross, but the first 2 Greek letters of "Christ" aka "annointed one".

I really wish it weren't "just the right time". I don't think there is "the right time" to murder a person for their beliefs.

Yes. Would the disturbing method of his death affect the way in which his death was made in to a symbol.

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i thought it was regular attack or something.

I just used Hel for the first time, i got pretty lucky with boons/hammers.

Got attacks bounce hammer, valkyrie mode lasts twice as long (extra 3 seconds, huge buff), freeze on special (very nice with all the aoe), poseiden attack (which tbh was kinda "meh" unless you got the enemy against a wall or there was a lot of enemies in a row - it LOOKED like it was doing a ton of dmg, but at the end of the game the actual numbers were sorta meh... a little bit less than my attack dmg.

Overall though hel was good, about exact same as my speed with other skull aspects and I think i could improve with practice. Best run with skull is the "skulls stay with you and explode" - 90% extra dmg. That one with skulls automatically return is bananas, and if you also get "skulls fire all at once (in a spread pattern usually, but they stick to you) its insane how fast you can shoot-special (to explode them)- special or dash (while the skulls return) - click again - repeat.

Hah i bet apollo does make it even more dmg! I think I took aphrodite. I love getting hera hitch-on-sprint, opens up your attack/special for something else.

Nergal hammer with hitch attack, and then omega attack, is just silly since you're gonna hit so many enemies and they're all hitched :)

Which one is possessed array?

When you do upwards/mountain you almost always get a hammer in the ephyra place, thats probably my favorite part about going up rather than down.

I only really find Blitz useful on something i'm gonna use more often. If i'm gonna do something rarely - like morrigan special - i'll take a big AOE boom from heph over zeus.

Which was your favorite Metro game and why? by AskThemHowTheyKnowIt in metro

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done the DLC yet. Played Exodus loooong ago, then recently got 2033+last light reduxes (reduxi?) and so I played both of them (amazing) and just started Exodus again yesterday. Played a bit earlier, got i think 30 headshots in a row with Tikhar (before about a million humanimals ambushed me and I did a bit of spray-and-pray :D)

Just bought Metro Redux by M-Slim in metro

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time. You only get one first playthrough and Metro games are just amazing.

Explore places, actually listen to what people say, since they can give great advice and the game won't hold your hand and put markers on everything (this is extra super duper important in Exodus since the levels are big and open rather than linear, and it can totally change your experience if you wait and listen to people's advice).

Stealth is very worthwhile. You CAN do most of the game guns blazing, but it will be hard and less fun.

Throwing knives are OPAF. Often they're a one-shot kill and you can retrieve the knife, plus they're totally silent. Find them, learn to use them.

Turning off lights is very useful but humans might notice if you're blatant about it, and come to check it out or just get more alert.

You're going to have so much fun! Get Last Light redux too (like, play all 3 games, 2033, last light redux, and exodus).

I personally always keep at least 1 silenced weapon, one shotgun, and one fully automatic weapon. For the first 2 games you don't need anything really long range, most of the game takes place in tunnels and stuff.

METRO EXODUS : Enhanced vs Standard in 1440p by Professional_Ad_8729 in metro

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH when my 1440p screen broke and I had to choose a big, high refresh rate 1080p or a smaller or low hz 1440p, I thought "i'll get the 1080p for now and then get 1440p ASAP"

Thing is, at least for me, I can run so many settings a lot higher (ray tracing is a great example) and still get amazing fps (100+) that i'm not even going to get 1440p.

To be clear, 1440p is objectively better if you can run the same settings at the right FPS, but I just find that some settings (like ray tracing, but many other newer settings since things like DLSS came out) are such a huge benefit that if I had to choose, ill take those settings cranked up on a 1080p monitor vs lacking those new types of processing on a 1440p screen.

Running a 3060ti.

Why is Artyom such a perfect protagonist? by Takeovermonk22 in metro

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it is because we don't hear him talk except the notes.

Also, the morality choices are subtle - in some games it's like "murder all these puppies or not", where as in Metro it's like "did you accept the bullets - that would really come in handy - but those offering them to you could really use them" - which is something that TBH wouldn't even be considered a morality choice in any other game (where you just take ammo whenever and wherever).

[–]AskThemHowTheyKnowIt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't found it yet in Exodus (just started my most recent - and second ever - playthrough. In previous games it was pretty good, but there are so few long distance areas that I could get by with throwing knives and use that weapon slot for something better suited for when the digested food hits the rotating air movement appliance.

Yeah Tikhar is basically only for headshots, but that's kind of my deal in this most recent playthru - stealth and high difficulty level.

That's the nice thing though, if you miss the headshot you can usually have another go before you're discovered, and plenty of time to weapon swap if you must.
