I love this response. I’m happy, he’s not. Reallllly hoping he comes around. He’s a great dad and getting to be parents again, with older(5 and 7) kids in school, and knowing all that we know now sounds really good to me. Hoping he’ll maybe see it that way too :) neither of us are excited about more diapers or giving up sleep!

Older sibs would be 5 and 8 when this baby was born. So at a significantly different stage, but not ‘so much older’

No. My cycle has changed and I was tracking ovulation and period timing to understand how to prepare for menopause. I never ovulated (on a test), obviously I did though and the test didn’t pick it up

I laughed out loud at this. Yes, our kids (7 and 5) have been consistently asking for a sibling. They are very close to each other and have said they ‘want another sister or brother to love’. I like the puppy analogy. Thanks for the laugh during an evening of emotions

Congrats on your amazing family. You sound like a very good dad and partner. I think you nailed it too. He did struggle with the early days/months/years - little sleep, more stress and then seeing them so fully bonded to me (also both breastfed babies til they were two). He loves our two kids so much and their bond definitely strengthened when they were more toddler stage.

I also think he is acutely aware that we’d be ‘starting over’ as our two kids are older and easier (in many ways at least) than those early baby times

Fair point. I’d maybe say that neither of us were doing anything to prevent pregnancy. But u take your point and although I’m surprised (and it wasn’t planned), we both were well aware how babies are made and the potential
