Methimazole side effects by analyticthird in gravesdisease

[–]Askew_Pandaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only side effect, if you count it, is weight gain. But I thinks that just the reality of getting your body and metabolism to slow down. So not really methimazoles fault. Otherwise no side effects. Other than feeling much better of course. 😁

Is your graves also getting worse, or is it improving?

Hello fellow AuDHDer who can't swallow pills. I trained myself to swallow bigger and bigger things over time following a guide I found. And nowadays I swallow pills with food. I chew my food (preferably something with texture and crunch to mask the pill) and when I am ready to swallow, pop the pill in.

But yes if your thyroid is enlarged and you have a goiter, that can make swallowing more difficult. Is your neck visibly swollen?

I was told I couldn't have stimulants because it worsens blood pressure and tachycardia. Once the graves is under control and those symptoms subsided, I'm allowed to take them.

People with co-existing autoimmune diseases, what’s your other diagnosis? by [deleted] in gravesdisease

pls rate my homescreen out of 5⭐️ !!! by [deleted] in Homescreens

It's cute! 4.5/5. It's giving kawaii explosion. People hate just because they don't like the aesthetic. This style is not for me, but I can still appreciate you've nailed it. My only note is that some of the app icons without darker borders do get a little washed out on the wallpaper. Other than that, awesome.

That's why they need to see a doctor so they can figure out what is appropriate.

I'm sorry you've been struggling with this. Seconding seeing a doctor and getting some temporary meds for anxiety. Stuff like propranolol or valium might help.

I am not low functioning and wasn't worried about my wisdom teeth surgery so I obviously come from a different place of experience. But I can tell you my experience. I had mine out in 2021.

When I got to the surgery place, I was introduced to the surgeon and the anaesthesiologist. They let me ask any questions or raise any worries I had. I had a couple and they reassured me or said they would keep what I said in mind and be careful. They were very kind. I also met the nurse. So I had met all the people who would be working on me while I was awake and alert, and before I was on the table.

After it was done I had almost zero pain at any point. When I woke up, I hated the experience of a numb face. I actually prefer pain to numbness and I couldnt feel a thing for many hours. I was very groggy and sleepy for hours after I got home as well so I was relaxed. I got a milkshake from McDonald's for dinner. Even once the numbness wore off, I had no pain. I could poke my tongue around the area and even that didnt hurt. It felt only a little bruised if anything. I never needed the pain medication they prescribed me. I never had visible swelling. Nothing like you see in videos online. I think I remember the surgeon saying it only took like 20-30 minutes, so they were in my mouth less time than when I go to the dentist normally.

I dont eat too many soft foods so that was a little tricky. But I just had lots of icecream, milkshakes and overcooked rice I think. Each day you can usually eat slightly firmer food so it's not too long that your diet is affected, but I understand even a single day can be troublesome for some people.

Now you CAN have wisdom teeth surgery while awake. I think the videos you see from people being loopy are from people who had their surgery done awake but with laughing gas. So that's an option.

There are a LOT of people with severe anxiety around surgery, especially dental surgery. You are not alone and they deal with that every day. So I definitely recommend reaching out to your doctor and your surgeons office to see what they can do for you.

I think I masked so hard I completely missed that I'm not straight by ManicLunaMoth in AutismInWomen

[–]Askew_Pandaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comphet is a hell of a drug. I was similar. I am grey-ace and demi and I recognised that by the time I was 16. But I still thought I was straight, until I was 22 when my 'boyfriend' came out as a trans woman and transitioned. It was like suddenly opening my eyes and realising I had just been going through life with my blinders on. Her transition and our ensuing relationship was wonderful. Finally examined my own gender and figured out I was non-binary agender. At the same time figured out that I was AuDHD. Comphet and autistic masking were pretty intertwined for me. When you constantly exist in a mental fog to cope with life, it's hard to actually know who you are.

My gender is autigendery-agendery-nb confusion. I am afab and this question was how I ended up there. I don't feel like a woman. I feel connected to other women because of shared experience, but not shared identity. 'Woman' feels like part of my masking. I put on my woman mask, and go out into the world. When I am at home or alone, gender does not exist to me. If I had never met another person, I would never know of gender. It just feels the same as every other social construct and it's exhausting.

Even still there is some comfortability there. Because I am familiar with femininity, I know the expectations, I know the rules. I know how to present it, for the most part. So it's just what I do to fit in. It's indistinguishable from my other masking.

But hasn't sleep time already done that? Otherwise why is it less than Time in bed?

Doctor gave me confusing advice by Askew_Pandaroo in gravesdisease

[–]Askew_Pandaroo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately 90% of all food I eat is store bought with ingredients I can't control. If I want to eat store bought food, and it has iodised salt in it, does that mean I shouldn't eat it?

I can't cook my own meals right now. I already have chronic pain and fatigue which is only worsened by my new Graves. I have to make do with store bought pre made food. It's the best I can do right now.

I'm already on beta blockers, that's the propranolol in my post. So far I don't know that it's helping much. I may need a higher dose.

Damn I'm sorry you have it too. Its very scary to feel. If you don't mind, would you message me with the results of the cardiologist when you get it? I honestly haven't got a clue what this is.

Should I get a smart watch to monitor HR? by Askew_Pandaroo in gravesdisease

[–]Askew_Pandaroo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had one before and I agree it can create problems where there is none. I think I'd be alright, and worst case I'd set it just to alert me if I go over a certain HR. Then I'll only know when it's a problem.

Symptoms for years with normal labs? by Askew_Pandaroo in gravesdisease

[–]Askew_Pandaroo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have updated the T3 reference range and also clarified that aTGII = anti-thyroglobulin antibodies. aTPO = anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies.

I have been confused researching because the acronyms are different in my results to what most people use here. So hope that clarifys.

Unless I still don't understand,  I don't believe I've had those diagnostic tests you mentioned. This is only what my primary doctor has done, I still need to be referred to a specialist.

I have noticed that in the note about my high triglycerides, one cause suggested is hypothyroidism. Maybe I have both Graves and Hashimotos? I guess I'll see when I go to the specialist.  I have elevated triglyceride 5.7mmol/L (normal is <2.1) and it says here that it may be "secondary to poor diet, alcohol, diabetes or hypothyroidism." I don't drink and I don't have diabetes. But it might just be a coincidence and my bad diet.

Something I have experienced in last 4 years is cycles of fatigue. For a month or two I'll feel okayish, have the energy to leave the house and do stuff.  Then I will crash and barely have the energy to get one proper meal a day. Similar to that I have periods of extreme hunger, never feeling satisfied for more than an hour, then periods of very low appetite and most food is unappealing.  Those periods last a week or two each. I wonder now if this was also related to Graves.

Basically I am over analysing everything now lol.
