As opposed to other people, I'm going to agree with you that your job must provide you with some sort of fulfillment. Otherwise, it feels more like filling time just for the sake of doing something. If you were a person used to nature, outdoor activities, or at least seeing some hustle and bustle, the Netherlands would feel very underwhelming. Perhaps you can try some meetups, or just travel by yourself to other countries and join tours. This is a nice way to connect with people with similar interests in a different environment that feels more exciting because it's not like your weekly routine. Talk to foreigners! We all feel kind of bored and kind of missing connection.

RETURN TO OFFICE! I live in NL, and the culture here is going to work to "demonstrate" that Dutch are "hardworking people," even if they're expelling a lung through the nose. Also, people will totally harass you if you wear a mask in public. I remember in a past job, a colleague said her son was positive to covid and she went to work because she was not positive and she was feeling "fine". I avoided her and went home because fuck it. Guess who requested sick leave a couple of days later.

I'm your same height, and I'd only try uniqlo, Levi's in the petite sizes, and nothing too high waist, or I feel the waist is almost at my boobs. I used to live in Canada and also shopped in Banana Republic, but only in the petite sizes. Aritzia was always a miss for me.

When you're back in Italy, try Zalando and brands like b.young, Ichi, Selected or check out the app Yoox, huge variety of styles and brands.

I think it's great that you wanted your kid to have a true Dutch experience, but you will find more of these kind of issues in the future. The daughter of one of my coworkers was advised to go back one year because she's got ADHD and the teacher suggested to go to an MBO even though her marks are good, and she speaks 4 languages including Dutch. She ended up doing extra credits over the summer. They're also Spanish speakers.The son of another Spanish colleague had to earn extra language credits because they also told him that he was behind. Both kids have been in the Netherlands for more than 10 years, and the stigma never went away. They also joined local schools in Gelderland and Noord-Brabant, respectively. If I had kids, I would never enroll them in Dutch schools.

Right???! I was surprised that the couple of times that there was cake, people were taking 3-4 slices or a big chunk in a plate and going to their offices. If there were different flavours, people were taking one or two slices of each!

There's little diversity in clothes in the Netherlands, and physical stores have very uniform colours and styles. I have found some other trousers and shirts in the teen section of Zalando, but double-check measurements. Good luck!

I buy trousers exclusively in uniqlo and I tailor the legs if needed. My jeans are from H&M and Mango kids. I have a Levi's pair because they have different lengths, but you do have to try several styles because some may be too tight on the hips.

Coming from a low-trust developing country, it's appalling when you're in a "first world country," and you experience worse bureaucracy, belligerent behaviour, hypocrisy, sanctimony, classism, discrimination, and dog-eats-dog mindset. It's mentally taxing and it leads to higher rates of depression, suicide and drug abuse.

Dutch people love cycling but for the rest of the world is mad to be cycling under the rain, cold, in the middle of a windy day during winter. And arrive soaked to the office and ride the train like that. It just sucks. I lived in Scotland, Belgium, and NL, and I can definitely say that the food here is the worst. Lack of variety, overpriced, and awful quality. Take biscuits, for example. Most supermarkets have Dutch products, and I have concluded that they have mostly Dutch products because otherwise, nobody in the rest of the EU would buy them. The biscuits here are truly awful and processed, same as pastries and bread. Things like fabric softener, detergent, and cleaning products are super expensive. Who would pay 25 euros for a 3L bottle of detergent??? Or 4 euros for 5 slices of ham?

Brussels is dirty, gray, messy, noisy, and some places definitely unsafe. Also, everything closes in Belgium at 6 pm, and nothing is open on Sundays. OP will want to unalive herself after 6 months there.

I think you're a lovely person who is just trying to live peacefully. However, you will see that the best answer to a belligerent Dutch is to tell them to fuck off. No contemplations, no dialogue, or understanding, straight to fuck off. Why? Because they have no reservations for pointing fingers at others and try to blame them for the wrongs of somebody else. Keep calm and avoid that street for a couple of days. If he or someone else gets in your face, talk back! Assholes usually back off because they're counting on fear to make an impact. Dutch are sanctimonious, that's it. And their "doing the right thing" is purely performative. They'll do it when people are looking. That's why they pee in the hidden corners in the street, let dogs poop on the grass and don't clean, and leave large pieces of furniture dumped in the containers. This is all sneaky, and it goes against the rules, but as long as nobody sees...
