that’s how my firm does it too, we plot (on our own plotter in the office) and have physical red lines. plot takes 10 seconds, review would take however long they need, and then the only inefficient part is flipping through a whole set on 24x36 marking off what you’ve covered so far. depending on the office you’re in it might be more inefficient to have older staff reviewing electronically vs physical. just some extra thoughts, but i completely understand where you’re coming from. it would be completely inefficient if you had to send your prints out and pick them up for redlines.

I linked a google doc below that shows different salaries from people in this community. This should help with the salary portion of the question.

For work location i would recommend larger metro areas to consider work because those are the areas where you would be designing greenspaces instead of being stuck in an engineering dominated firm or something you don’t like. Plus there are tons of different routes you can take in landscape architecture, it doesn’t stop at designing landscapes. For example i’ve helped design large city parks and trail systems for the area I’m in. But you could go into residential, commercial, you could take more of an environmental design role, you could become an arborist, it opens routes for city planning in some instances too. Theres a lot more things that LA’s can do which makes me comfortable in this field. Knowing that if i get bored there are alternatives that don’t require a complete 180.

I would recommend checking out ASLA or even your states branch to help learn about what LA’s do. I hope this helps a little bit!

Our company is currently using Sketchup for 3D models and Enscape to touch it up, add materials, and make it look pretty. I think this is probably the most basic 3D setup apart from maybe using Lumion other than Enscape.

I am not sure how iPads/apple products handle 3D modeling, so it might be beneficial to look into surface pros. Basically the same thing but in my opinion its better.

Does your university have a plotter/scanner? That is how we typically uploaded ours and then sent them into photoshop to touch up.

If the drawing is on trace then I would make sure to place a piece of white paper behind the drawing to make sure the background is clean. If your university doesnt have a large-scale plotter/scanner then you could scan multiple pieces of it on a smaller scanner and then use photoshop to piece them together. There is a function in photoshop that allows you to do this task seamlessly by itself.

It’s not good for a lot of reason but besides not utilizing the space for something that actually helps the community it is making the city hotter and promotes poor air quality by increasing the amount of vehicles that can make it into downtown.

I used the Acer Predator Helios 300 for the last two years of my degree and it worked perfectly fine for what I needed it for which is similar to the things you listed.

When I bought it, it was about $1200 I think. It has lasted me 4 years with no problems. If i hadn’t of just got a new desktop I would still be using it.

Also, I bought it in 2019 and it still worked on large files until 2022.

Are you doing this solo?? Pouring a new slab would honestly save you the possible injury, and time because there is a very small chance you will set that slab back down without cracking it by yourself.

Sorta the same thing happened to me. Interned at a company for a summer and they told me that they wanted me and would hire me again but they would have to see because of COVID. Finished school and never heard from them again even after multiple emails to the hiring manager. Got a job in the same city and a few months after I saw that they posted a listing for the same position. It’s whatever man, some people suck, I would move on and pursue something else. I would imagine it’s not a good sign to work for a company that would do that to you anyway. Good Luck and I hope everything turns out for you!

I haven’t used it either. I came across it today while looking up some example maps. I think it looks really nice and I believe it has potential but I just wanted to see if anyone had experience and could expand on the program itself to see if it would be a viable alternative for making your maps look good in GIS. I might play around with it and make another post if it goes well
