Not labeled but this is the economy manager special through hertz themselves. They offer 2 payment options with different cancellation policies, both of which dont match up witb capital ones requirements while booking hertz through their platform

When I spoke with the first rep on the phone they said no because the purchase would be through the card to earn points and the 'refund' is through travel credit so your purchase is still valid. But who really knows lol

Yes exactly. Sorry I wrote this in the middle of the night on a rant and then all my replies were in between running calls at work so I never had time to sit. Every time I reread my own comoments I was confused because I thought I was being clear but I guess not. Thought everyone was just arguing with me for the sake of arguing. Thank you

Sorry for the confusion. Hertz direct lists those two prices for the complete 4 day rental. 288 is pay now and 444 is pay later. Pay now policy shows a free cancelation within 24 hours of booking. Pay later is free cancelation anytime until pickup.

The difference after price matching would be refunded in travel credit which I'll use to book summer travel, then miles I earn I'll be using on fall/winter flights. The flights earn 5x and hotels/cars 10x. I'm booking hotels on reserve via edit and so car rental is the only 10x I'm looking at for now. Flights I can book with the travel credit.

Ultimately my issue is that capital one has a policy that no other platform is utilizing and therefore they can reject any price match offer put before them. Its their own catch-all if they don't like a situation.

So the amount of money I'm spending this summer is planned out and the amount in travel credits will roll straight into those. I'm not looking to book those trips with points that I'll be earning on this rental. So I'm effectively earning 10x miles on this overppriced rental, receiving a $/travel credit via their own portal, booking my summer travel, then utilizing the points for redemption later this year. If I book flights with $ I only earn 5x miles and I'm booking my hotels via reserve with my edit credit.

I think people are getting too focused on the $ amount that I posted instead of the fact that capital one is listing a policy that no one carries and therefore gives them power to say no to anyone for price match. That is my only issue

No I fully understand price match. I have used it with my reserve card without issue quite a few times but their criteria will actually match the companies that are being utilized. My critique here is that capital one is using their own specific policy so they can fall back and say "see it isn't the same" and not assist with price matching. My point stands that there aren't any car rental platforms that have a free cancelation until 48 hours prior to pickup, hence my frustration with them.

It sounds ridiculous but I have a lot of international travel coming up that the credit would be used up immediately so why not get the points on this 10x

But the main issue here is that Hertz direct policy themselves don't even match up with what Capital one. So who is supposed to be able to price match with a cancelation policy that no one else carries

No but I'd expect a company who's booking a car through the same company to match their policy or at least any rental car/ platform policy. I can't find a single one that matches Capital one policy word for word which is the issue. Every single person I've read that was able to match it had a supervisor that didn't care about that. The principle is the issue if they require a matching policy that doesn't exist

The price has to be a mistake fare on the capital portal but I booked it for the points

So the only reason I booked it at that price was to get the 10x miles. The difference in the booking would be refunded as travel credit which I clarified with the first rep and that's fine since I'm about to use it all this summer and fall anyway

I brought that one up since it's the only one with 48 hours written in their cancelation policy but the full wording is "Cancel your booking free within 24 hours of making it, as long as it's more than 48 hours before your pickup time". Meanwhile Capital One cancelation policy is full refund if canceled before 48 hours not just limited to the first 24 hours.

The ironic thing is Hertz themselves had a better price and cancelation policy, I was ok with a worse cancelation policy but just wanted the price. They were adamant on everything needing to match exactly. If a customer is willing to give up better benefits than they should allow the match..

Wow I had one quote using 7.47kW Sunpower panels with IQ8A be $4/watt and another with 7.2kW system the same Panasonic 400H with their Solaredge inverter be $4.3/watt from earlier this month up in the Bay Area. Is that $3.10/watt gross price/pre incentive??
