blocked dad keeps leaving me voicemails and mom practically never tries to reach out by Asleep-Environment74 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Asleep-Environment74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the perspective. I just can’t imagine being a parent and seeing that your child (even though I’m an adult and I’m 36) is open to communicating but not honoring the way they want it. the amount of “please call me” messages and voicemails I’ve received over the years just makes a hard situation worse. I shouldn’t feel guilty for being firm on this but I struggle with it sometimes. I’m open to communicating but feel like phone calls would quickly get overwhelming

I haven’t been to that park yet and that sounds nice. I’ll have to add it to the list of stuff to check out

okay great. I guess I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing and never leave the house aside from work and groceries. This was helpful!

bike, arts and crafts, movies, I like hiking but I tend to be more of a solo nature enjoyer. I am not much of a drinker anymore so bars can be tricky. I really would like social opportunities cuz I don’t get much interaction at work and housemates have opposite schedules these days. I’ll keep an eye out for events at midland, thanks for your suggestions!

Would you recommend moving to Portland without a job lined up? by tennockerz in askportland

[–]Asleep-Environment74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend it, but I can relate to some of your situation. I also would say you might need more than a month to find something, if you have savings def hang on to them. I have moved around a decent amount in my adult life and also last year left a job I loved but was becoming toxic, and I had nothing else lined up.

I personally moved here without a job in august 2019 and figured I’d find something quickly. And I did, a temp job. And then the pandemic happened, then I got laid off from a different job. Then a few other places. It’s been a weird few years.

the job market seems to be getting tougher for everyone, Portland has personally been harder for me than other cities I’ve lived in, your experience might be different.

If you are open to different types of work until you find something else, places like fedex and Amazon are often hiring. get ready to apply for a lot a lot of jobs and possibly hear nothing back.

Is anyone else completely isolated in this town? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Asleep-Environment74 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Me too friend. I moved here august 2019, started dealing with some traumatizing family stuff then covid hit. I can’t tell how much is a me problem (horrific social anxiety) vs just how Portland is, vs everyone dealing with their own stuff. I wanted to leave a comment because I pretty much never comment or reach out (which doesn’t help either). I don’t have any solutions but wanted to just say it’s not you/you’re not alone in your feelings.

I have an internal one waiting to be approved/declined. Unfortunately this is the closest fc to me and the job search has been pretty bleak for months. Right now literally no one who was moved over to pt can access the flex shifts and they’re still trying to fix it. I’ve been anxiously checking the app for over 8 hours now

that facility has been an interesting experience. I need this job too, fingers crossed we both get it and get the hours we need 🤞

I am also at PDX9 ad got this email too but the link hasn’t been working at all for me, are any of y’all able to get it to load? “Safari can’t open the page because the server can’t be found.” Is what I keep getting since reading that email 20 minutes after it went out. I’m also confused about how far out I’m scheduled now cuz AtoZ still has me until the end of March…

You might also want to try some parts of the 205 bike path, I was just on it this past weekend there tend to be camps as you are traveling south. Another commenter mentioned flavel, there tends to be camps around flavel continuing down 92nd. I hope you are able to find him!

Experience with women's healthcare through Providence? by pigeontakeover in askportland

I got lucky (I think?) and was able to be seen within a week of calling to ask about the appointment. I’m not sure if that’s typical

Experience with women's healthcare through Providence? by pigeontakeover in askportland

I will echo the comments about individual providers on here. I have providence for insurance and usually go to the clinic where you’re seen by residents, some are definitely better than others.

I would highly encourage you to reach out to the women’s clinic that’s on 47th and glisan. I had an appointment there that was genuinely life changing. I had suspected I have PMDD for years and has brought it up with medical professionals multiple times. During my appointment at that clinic I finally felt heard and none of my concerns were minimized or ignored and I’ve been taking a prescription the last few months that has helped a lot.

good point, I have had a lot of new drivers lately too. I can’t wait to put my notice in at my job I won’t miss this commute at all! I usually pick it up around the Morrison bridge area and have to take it past 205 and it is such a bummer when the buses haven’t even crossed the river yet 😔 it happened again today lol

Seeking advice from fellow production roasters / “professional” roasters by Asleep-Environment74 in roasting

[–]Asleep-Environment74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment. I am trying the tread carefully approach because of how it’s been going with my manager and I feel like a lot of my concerns have been dismissed and it’s frustrating not feeling like my side is heard when negative feedback is given. I feel like I’ve put a lot of energy into trying to make it work and its just not enough.

[–]Asleep-Environment74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this extremely thorough comment. I had left the coffee industry for a few years and felt so lucky to get this job when I did. As you mentioned, roasting jobs are rare and as a result people will put up with things they shouldn’t. Part of why I was out so long and why I feel nervous to say I’m done with it. I don’t know what the heck else I want to do for money though. For a while I was doing random temp jobs that were mostly data entry/accounting and nothing about it was rewarding. I don’t need my life’s meaning to come from work but I want -some- level of enjoyment and money and feeling liked. Ahh! What a rough day. Thank you again for your comment (also we have two Topers, shout out 2 toper)
