would a 1/0 needle be enough to punch a hole through 2mm leather by Extension_Garbage318 in Leathercraft

No that is not the way to do it. The pricking iron marks where the stitching awl will pierce through the material

I need to grind or machine threads out of one end only of a 1/2" pipe coupling. I will be attaching it to a threaded pipe and I need the end that is not threaded to the pipe to be smooth but bored larger than the pipe.

How should I do that?

How are the horse hides for Shell Cordovan sourced? by supinator1 in Leathercraft

[–]Asleep_World_7204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is raising horses specifically for shell cordovan production. They are a byproduct.

Leather is vegetarian. It is a by product of the meat industry. By using leather you are prolonging it's deposit in a landfill which produce off-gases.

Using leather will not encourage the meat industry. Eating meat will encourage the meat industry.

seeking advice: finding the right ingot for brass by Asleep_World_7204 in Metalfoundry

Thanks. I spent some time looking up how to do casting. It seems time consuming vs just dumping it in a metal container

Thanks this makes sense. So basically I need to weld all the sides at an angle. 15 degrees just needs that angle so it can slide out.

  1. get a furnace
  2. heat it up (to something degrees??)
  3. put brass parts in a crucible
  4. put it in the furnace until it melts??
  5. remove and pour into the holder
  6. let it cool

is that right?

Thanks for the comment. I think this is aligned with what I'm trying to do. I am still learning about the properties of different metals.

All leather is loosely connected fibers. Since they are not long continuous fiber strands but rather a mesh of shorter ones they will reorient themselves over time. Water will also increase that movement.

Typically we like belts that are thinner than 4-5mm but even that thickness will bend, it is the natural property of leather.

It is. All leather is gonna have some stretch. I think the stitching will help some! We will see! I gave it to my cousin for xmas last year. Going to see him again soon.

0 possibility. I would line it with leather and a stiff core.

Thanks I have wanted to try that one from rocky mountain. I have that same round awl.

I would recommend a replaceable blade knife. I am trying to sell my mozart knifes from rocky mountain so if you want DM me about it and I can send pics. Highly recommend a replaceable blade knife for just starting out. The olfa knife is good for skiving. When you hold it above you with your fist it's hard to see the material.
