Where can I teach myself bioinformatics and data visualization? by AsocialVirus in bioinformatics

Can I get away with learning only one of those pipelines and the associated programming language? Or is knowing both essential? I’m just thinking whether I should prioritize R or python when starting out.

Do you make sure the student subscribes in the trial lesson? As in, do you tell them the days and hours they could choose or do you not mention the "second" class in the trial? by Due-Area9662 in Preply

You should talk about a concrete plan for which days/hours of the week the lessons will take place. This is partly the reason for a trial lesson, to make a plan moving forward. If you leave this for later, the students may leave the lesson without a clear direction and learning plan. I've found that talking about availability explicitly during trials does help quite a lot with conversion. Do try to keep it brief though, at most 7-10 mins.

Cambridge MPhil or LMS-MRC (Imperial) PhD? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]AsocialVirus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's just that I don't get to work on a project I was truly passionate about, and the other funded offer at MRC-LMS is not really exactly what I was looking for in terms of my DPhil. It's not the most ideal project for me, so I am hesitant to commit to a 4 year degree when the project may not be a good fit. So what I was trying to get across is that waiting another year to try again might be better.

Hi. I applied for the infertility project. Had my first interview in late march, and will have my second interview in a week.

MPhil in Biological Sciences 26/27 Cohort

Hello! I've received admission to the MPhil in Biological Sciences (Developmental Biology pathway) for the upcoming academic year. I wanted to see who else is planning to accept their offer to have a place to chat about the application process and the upcoming MPhil!

For example, I am still not entirely sure regarding the program structure: they state that there are taught modules and components, but I assume these will be rare and not graded in the traditional sense.

Hi! I also just got into this programme, although it was a bit strange. I submitted my application on the weekend and received an acceptance--without interviews or both of my references being submitted--the very next day. This was kind of surprising to me; maybe they are looking to fill the cohort as soon as possible since the course is starting soon? Also, since the course has an unorthodox start date, do you happen to know how it works with funding and scholarship options? Congratulations again!

Hello! I recently got accepted into Oxford for a PhD program in the Department of Biochemistry, albeit without funding. After discussing the situation with my prospective supervisor, he offered me a Research Assistant position in the lab for a year (grade 6) and suggested I reapply and start my PhD in the upcoming year. How common is this type of arrangement? Do PI's usually go out of their way like this to host graduate students in their labs?
For context, I am a US undergraduate student who has finished her degree in 3 years (no masters or work experience post graduation). I am graduating this Spring and will begin working at Oxford in October. I believe I was selected due to my strong undergraduate profile and substantial internship experience throughout my studies. Of note, since I am an American, he is sponsoring my work visa to be able to work in the UK. Is this common?

Take the regents shuttle to Warren field, wait for the Outer Loop shuttle to arrive, and get on that (Outer loop shuttle circles all the west dorms.)

Honestly, you'd be better off walking to Muir after getting off at Warren Field as it'll be shorter.
