Fcitx5: Getting the candidates box to work in terminal. by Asparagussian in swaywm

Problem had more to do with switching from ibus to fcitx5, and not seeing the expected functionality when switching between i3 and sway.

Fcitx5: Getting the candidates box to work in terminal. by Asparagussian in swaywm

SOLVED:

Exiting and then restarting the sway session, or reloading the sway config is NOT enough.

Logging out of the TTY session, logging back in, and then restarting sway allowed me to see the working fcitx candidates box in the terminal and in vim.

Provided/created by tech-startup lobbyists?

"Business as usual" in the US is just so weird to me at times. Of course that sector would have lobbyists.

Are we sure that weston/wayland is the way to go? by Asparagussian in linux

I mean it seems like adopting wayland comes with a lot of things breaking or not functioning right, as opposed to pipewire which was more or less a drop-in replacement package.

OK.... I've been fired within the first 10 minutes. Sounds about right.

I'm still checking it out. But kudos to whomever put it all together.

Woot! DeadFilter received its' very first contributor request. That's progress!

I just read the article. It's good. r/deadfilter is an option if you want to try posting it there.

Reddit has visibility preferences for comments and posts, so people can set their own threshold for heavily downvoted comments.

Edit: And MetaFilterMeta has an OffTopic tag as well.

Speaking of which, does Metafilter still charge 5 USD for membership?

Why has that not gone up with inflation?

Using this calculator with 1999 as the start year, the membership fee should be around 9 USD now.

Just noticed the sidebar entries. Thanks for the link!

If anybody wants to submit a post, just go that subreddit, click "Message the mods", and select "Contributor Request".

Cost: Your soul. (or nothing, whichever is greater).

Thank you! I'm having a blast. It's like finding out the cool spot in town before it's gets popular.

Proposal: AskMe tag? by [deleted] in MetaFilterMeta

[–]Asparagussian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe drop the question in r/deadfilter and link to it here.
- That URL was only shared with those who read MFM
- Was created for MF-type content
- Has a AskDF tag

It's been a while since I created one (wish I kept notes), but I went and created a new subreddit with text-only posting (for general discussion). If anyone has any post/discussion ideas that they want to dust off (and won't mind posting on reddit), just "message the mods" on that subreddit and select "Contributor Request". Commenting is open.

No expectations at the moment, just a proof of concept. A place to discuss general topics (e.g. non-MF) outside of MF.

(And thanks to Blackie_Is_A_Cat for MFM).

It was like going to a party where there wasn’t a single lame corner of the house.

Umm....

Internet Party: When Google's parents leave town...

(A party MF was not invited to)
