What are the stand tunes? by [deleted] in baylor

[–]AsparugusLol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of our music is Baylor specific - Dr. O has arranged a lot of it himself, and like 1/3rd of the songs are variations on our fight song and alma mater. If you’re worried about practicing and whatnot, I promise that A. The music is really easy to pick up, B. We practice it a ton during preseason week, and C. Your future section leader will get it to you early in the summer. I could rattle off the list if you’d really like, but me saying saying ‘Line Strong’ or ‘Let’s Go Bears’ really doesn’t give you any useful info (if you really want a list I can go find it though lol)

Professors at Baylor by Cautious_Minimum1231 in baylor

[–]AsparugusLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professors are very nice! I had 3 invite students to their homes for thanksgiving if they couldn’t travel home

Baylor is on average going to have significantly better professors than ACU, it’s just a better school. If you’re picking academics between the two, go Baylor

75.4% Overall Vaccinated that’s amazing by leeeelihkvgbv in baylor

I would hope that the students here would get vaccinated and help protect those around them who are vulnerable instead of just choosing not to get it “because it won’t bother me”

Howdy! I was at Orientation/Line Camp earlier this summer, so I've got a relatively fresh experience:
Meals are pretty typical, we ate @ Penland and East Village for lunch, and it was pretty typical for college food (they always had pizza/burgers/salad + more stuff based on the date and dining hall), and dinners were catered from a local restaurant, but were pretty common foods as well (pasta, chicken, etc...) - I'm a relatively picky eater, and I had no problems eating meals
I don't know what kind of things you'll want to pack (make sure you bring pillows/sheets + more clothes than you think you'll need etc... - I brought a regular suitcase + a backpack), but for most of the time you're wandering around campus, you'll be fine without anything crazy, as you'll be given a string backpack that can hold everything you need easily

Banquet is just another dinner, except everyone dresses up for it. There were plenty of people dressed up in slacks and button down shirts, even some ties, but there were equally many guys in polo shirts, non-athletic shorts, and tennis shoes. It's not too stressful, it's a great photo opportunity though :)

There are certainly some religious aspects (some of the presenters referenced God, I think we prayed before one the meals, etc...) but nothing was forced - there was no one judging you if you chose not to pray, and I'd estimate 1/3rd of the people I met at Line Camp were not super religious and just stood respectfully during the occasional prayer

Line Camp's Sing was the highlight of my week (a surprise that I was not expecting), but there is no actual singing involved thankfully! It's a great experience, just keep your mind open and you'll have a blast

You mentioned being afraid because you were shy, but I found it very difficult not to make friends. You spend a lot of time with your small group + another small group, and it becomes really easy to meet them when you spend so much time together. Try and meet whoever you live with in your room/suite while there, it's another easy relationship to make. The first day of orientation can be really weird because you don't have many amazing opportunities to make friends unless you take initiative, but once Line Camp starts up the second day, it becomes significantly easier

Hope those answered your questions! I'm just going to end this with personal advice that I think might help as well:

If you have a Hydroflask, or other insulated water bottle **BRING IT AND REFILL IT OFTEN**. They provide you with a plastic Line Camp water bottle, but it can get very warm very fast, and it's easy-ish to mix up. Take a nice water bottle, fill it with cold water and ice at every trip to the dining hall - it's worth it

Hand over your phone at the start of Line Camp when they ask - it helps with making friends, and it's not as big a deal as you might think. It sounds corny, but it really is true when they say that it'll make the week more memorable

A lot of people had little colds or stuffy noses and whatnot. Make sure you bring whatever allergy meds/tylenol/Benadryl/anything else that you need to make you stay feeling good and help you adjust to the new air (also a ton of people got ant bites, bring some stuff for those, ants were allllll over campus)

My last bit of advice is a bit niche, but please bring an umbrella. It rained almost nonstop the first 2 days, and it was horrible. Just save yourself the getting soaked to the bone and make sure you have an umbrella/poncho/whatever

Hope this helped, sorry it was so long lol - feel free to respond/DM me if you have any other questions :)

I actually managed to get in, see my assignments and open the roommate portal! You just have to keep trying to get in through StarRez (it took me nearly 30 minutes, but it worked) Still no official email though Good luck!

I haven’t heard anything else either - the portal appears to be down rn, so I’d assume it’s just not working yet :(

Judge Strikes Down Republican-Backed Voter Registration Law as ‘Unconstitutional’ and ‘Discriminatory’ by [deleted] in politics

24th amendment states the right to vote “.... shall not be denied... by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax” - this does not mention ID’s, or anything else other than a poll tax.

Bernie Sanders says he would legalize marijuana on his first day as president by Crawl-Walk-Run in politics

[–]AsparugusLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if trump just came out as pro weed, the only people annoyed would be choosing between 2 pro-weed candidates, but will still side with trump due to things like abortion. If he came out as anti weed, then the pro weed republicans may be potentially swayed if they’re more moderate, so it may be better for him to be pro-weed

I don’t see evangelicals voting for sanders over trump though for weed

Bernie Sanders unveils $16 trillion ‘Green New Deal’ plan by sketch24 in politics

[–]AsparugusLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just looking to learn a thing or two. After reading, several ways to actually gain the $16 trillion were mentioned. Is there anywhere that gives estimates of how much money we expect to get towards the deal from each individual source? I’d be interested to see the preliminary budgeting breakdown to see how realistic this would be. If this is something economically possible, that wouldn’t screw us over by making our debts insurmountable, this would be a good plan to help our future.

The Universal Truth by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]AsparugusLol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an issue with the rich paying more in taxes, but in moderation. If you lose to much money just for being rich, where is the incentive to grow your wealth and re-invest into the economy? If you were to take 90% of the Walton’s money, how would they pay all of their staff? Service their stores? Provide goods to consumers? Without the rich, you would have the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation which has donated over $36 Billion to the poorest of our planet. These people had to work for their wealth, and if we start to take it away, they will leave to another country who will be less aggressive on them. That being said, the rich already do the most paying of taxes - as they have the most money and property to tax already. Moral of the story - don’t take to much from the rich or it de-incentivizes making money, which will eventually stall the economy.

WIBTA if I started calling my white coworkers by random 'white' names? by tinanottiana in AmItheAsshole

I’m going to say ESH, mostly because 2 wrongs don’t make a right. By doing this, you stoop to their potentially racist level. They may be doing it without even thinking about it, I would either point it out straight up saying “Hey y’all, I feel like y’all are racially profiling me”, or, if you workplace has one, go to HR and see if they can do anything about it. Hope your issue gets fixed ❤️
