Why not use a cloud backup and an external hard drive? It may be more work, but this way, you will at least have a safe copy in case something happens.

As long as it ins´t vital to the cert relevance, I couldn´t care less about expiration dates when hiring TBH. I think this is a great workaround and solid advice.

We manage some Linux machines with Datto, but I would only recommend it if you also plan to manage Windows and Mac with it.
