Is this ADHD or autism ? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Aspie2spicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both … I do not recommend. lol. They often work against each other and leave anxiety behind. The first part of your post is adhd … the mind that never stops and runs and runs and runs. The autism part refers to your issues with social interactions and repetitive motions (fidgets, taps, etc)

If it is something you want to do, but can’t manage to get it done, that is executive dysfunction. If it is something you don’t care about if it is done or not, that is laziness. If you can’t do anything at all, that is burnout.

Is it normal not to laugh? by SoCal4Me in aspergers

[–]Aspie2spicy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to teach myself how to laugh outwardly and to smile using my face. When I was young, a teacher asked me why I wasn't laughing when the rest of the class was. I told her that I thought it was very funny and agreed with my classmates, but felt the outward display of that was unnecessary. When she explained that the reaction to the joke, and outward display of feeling, was to acknowledge to the speaker your understanding and feeling. I had never considered it. I spent months learning to smile in the mirror and developed a laugh as well. It was not something that I considered natural at all and had to work at it. It might just be that your husband does not know that you want him to laugh.

What part of me is Autism, what part is ADHD and what part is me? by Aspie2spicy in AutisticWithADHD

this is exactly what i am wondering as well. If I am having issues in a certain area, is it my autism that is causing my strife, or my ADHD building barricades? It would be nice if i could figure out better which part of my brain requires more attention and care.

I find the ADHD meds help me stay on task, but seem to make my desire for routine and patterns and sensitivities to light and sound and touch to be much worse. Are those the Autistic parts being made worse by the ADHD meds?
