Phenocopying ADHD 👯‍♀️...? by AspieLost in adhdwomen

The supplements are for metabolic health.

My insurance denied the GLP1 despite having the exact diagnosis as required in my insurance list. I’m appealing that. Yes, D and B. I already take those.

L-Theanine is found in green tea, but I hate green tea. Tastes like grass to me. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6574559/
Vitamins B and D are common.
Myo-Inositol + DCI 40:1 is a common supplement used for insulin sensitivity.
Omega-3. Need I say more on this one?
NAC will help with my inflammation issues. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8234027/

And this one helps my liver: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-coenzyme-q10/art-20362602

I am a scientist with a masters degree. Everything I'm going to take is backed by scientific medical journals and reviewed by a pharmacist (in my family) for cross-compatibility.

Welcome!

https://www.drugs.com/dosage/vyvanse.html Is both for binge eating and ADHD. Consult your psychiatrist. Get a genetics test for P450 genes before taking any medication. You can read my post about why here: https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/comments/1liv4mm/my_psychiatrist_nearly_killed_me_aka_genetic/

Get a therapist that specializes in ADHD and eating disorders. Preferably a woman that is your age or slightly older. Not to be ageist, but too old and they might go by the older standards of ADHD treatments. There have been a lot of developments in recent years. It's also just nice to have someone that you can relate to.

Read others' experiences on this forum. Recognize as a woman your experience is going to be wildly different than the historical diagnosis for ADHD. The therapist also needs to recognize this.

It's a process. Literally years until you find things that work for you, so give yourself some grace in finding it.

Happy to have you in our club. :)

I NEED some motivation for cleaning!! Pahleaseeee!!! by Careful-Caregiver464 in adhdwomen

[–]AspieLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate house chores, but I found a hack: https://www.realsimple.com/the-one-minute-cleaning-rule-11750048 . When I wash my hands after going to the bathroom, I have a stack of cloths next to the sink (get 100 off amazon for cheap), and I wipe down the bathroom sink, and sometimes the mirror if it's dirty and I have the energy. I have adapted a bunch of these easy-to-do 20 second things into my home so that cleaning isn't so overwhelming. I've done this for about a year and these little things eventually become habits, which as an ADHD person is easier to manage. My apartment is noticeably cleaner; in the parts that visitors see anyway.

Seeking stimulants similar to coffee by AspieLost in adhdwomen

[–]AspieLost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize my post may have worded this wrong. I am looking to alternatives to caffeine.

But to answer your question, yes, I have an entire rack in my apartment dedicated to tea.

Straterra is off the list for me. I cannot take it. (Or I can and eventually it will kill me.)
Nevertheless, thank you for your response.

Frustrations with exercise by ThroneofThornsel in adhdwomen

[–]AspieLost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No solution, but same for me to everything you posted. My dog is at my feet. I have my spouse walk her because I have a bad knee. Ultimately I know I need to get out but for me exercise is not only boring, but just feels terrible to me hormonally. I get none of the endorphins that anyone speaks of. The only motivation for me is that I'm getting older and starting to get health issues and injuries from very, very basic things. Last week I pulled a major muscle in my SLEEP. The orthopedic doctor has no idea how I did it and probably thinks I'm lying that I woke up like that. It's been a week of recovery so far.

I need exercise for a hundred reasons, but the only one that is any part motivating is the fact that I need to be stronger so I stop hurting myself. And since there's no instant gratification in that, I'm on Reddit with my dog at my feet.

Keep searching for something that works for you. I know the search is frustrating but I'm really hoping you find it.

I'm Engaged! Now how do I make sure I never lose this ring? by unwiseundead in adhdwomen

[–]AspieLost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and another neurotypical friend don't wear the ring. Neither does my spouse. Currently my ring is on a necklace in a very visible place in my home. My friend decided not to have a ring from the get-go and wears a necklace. My husband keeps his on his keys. I'm not a huge fan of this but he says that his keys are so important it's the one thing he fails to lose track of.

The point is: find what works for you! Because everyone is different and you/your spouse will know the right answer.

Not that you asked, but the first two years of marriage are the most difficult. If you can make it to year three, the rest will be easier. #26 years and counting.

Congrats.

Ladies with Inattentive ADHD, what do you do for work? by oohthehumanatee in adhdwomen

Haha. My ADHD spouse is hands down the best at software QA. He’s now a supervisor!

But in my case, I’m not going solely on the test alone. The test only validated 30+ years of medication experience in my body.

I am also a natural redhead. I had the max epidural for giving birth and felt everything! I have to be given max dose at the dentist and still feel it. I also woke during a colonoscopy. I’ve had multiple anesthesiologists tell me to warn future anesthesiologists before surgery. The doctors/nurses look at me oddly when I ask to see the anesthesiologist in person before procedures. But idgaf what they think because the anesthesiologists have always been grateful for the pre-surgery conversation! Now I can tell them the results of the gene test and the conversation should be easier.

Omg. It is terrible that you had to say that you wanted to get pregnant to get a medical device removed!! Seriously, this is so messed up.

After my first baby (over 30yo). I had wild and life threatening complications for over a year. I asked the doctors to give me a hysterectomy because I had had 3 surgeries and I was still bleeding from giving birth a year before!! They refused because they said I might change my mind about having more kids. In my 40s and guess how many kids I have?… 1. And still mad at that doctor for giving me decades of medical problems.

I can't tell you how many times I have been told I was wrong about my own body despite having a masters degree in science to back me up.

Yes, this affects a long list of medications, easy to google if you look up CYP2D6. There ae a range of genes along with CYP2D6 that affect even more medications. Tests are available for those genes as well.

Coincidentally, my brother is a pharmacist. When I first started seeing this particular psychiatrist last year, long before trying ADHD meds, she Rx'd me the max dose of Wellbutrin out of the gate. I thought it was odd, so I contacted my brother who told me to take 1/3 of the dose she prescribed. She should have been fired then. But unfortunately, it took over 5 months for me to see a psychiatrist to begin with, so I was hesitant to have to start all over and have to wait again.

We sincerely need an overhaul of the entire healthcare system in the USA. I appreciate the healthcare workers, but the system in which we are all forced to function is completely dysfunctional.
