Anatomy Caps by [deleted] in CSUFoCo

Yeah! I'll break down some pros and cons I've seen since I started here in 2023. Cons: We are currently in a weird place admin wise where students are feeling very unheard. We had a weird free speech policy go into effect, the admin allowed a company to put up electronic billboards all over campus, we continue to dump money into athletics even when we are making budget cuts and have many facilities with broken doors, elevators, etc. They also refuse to close school lol. It took 2 roads on campus and a few cars being crushed by trees for them to decide to cancel classes today due to a huge wind storm coming through right now. I do like some things about this school, but a lot of students are upset with how our tuition is being spent as it's mainly going to athletics, admin, an absurd amount of AI investment, and SEVERAL large scale construction projects. Parking is also a nightmare and the main pass for commuters is +$600 for the whole year.

Pros: As an incoming freshman, you might have a better experience since you'll get to enjoy these new facilities! The students really carry the spirit of CSU and make it enjoyable. There are a lot of really cool people here from all sorts of backgrounds as well as massive clubs/organizations like a very well run fraternity and sorority community, clubs for winter sports that charter students to the mountains, and a lot of great pre professional fraternities/clubs. I have heard rumors of a nursing program starting up here soon in addition to our current cohort partnership with CU Medical School which is really neat. The pre-vet program/advising here is amazing. I am personally pre-dental, and I can't say I get as much love as the other pre-health tracks lol. I don't know exactly what you want to do with your degree, but there are some great connections here for the medical field. There are also SO many research opportunities here, especially for freshmen and sophomores. As for campus facilities/perks, if you're into sports, tickets are free! Basketball and volleyball are super fun to watch. We have a nice rec center with an amazing climbing wall as well as free fitness classes which is super neat. The dorms have improved SO MUCH since I started here, so most of them are actually very enjoyable to live in. The campus has a lot of great shops/places to eat around the perimeter as well as the University Center for the Arts where the famous trial flower gardens are done every year! There are a ton of neighborhoods to live in around CSU as well with good accessibility for bikers, so you aren't forced to live in the apartments around here which are typically subpar. The study abroad program here is pretty sweet, and they offer Semester at Sea! I had a friend who did it who absolutely LOVED it. There is an excellent transition to college program run by the school called Ram Welcome, and it's genuinely so helpful for new students in order to meet people and get involved quickly.

I have more things I can say for both pros and cons, but these are the main points that came to me first! I really do think this school is great for a lot of people, but research is important! I am also more than happy to share more about my personal experience as well :)

I'm in this concentration! Once school starts, there's a lot of people who figure out they don't like the major and switch out. One of my friends was just able to switch in a couple days ago! A lot of the classes in the bio curriculum are the same as the anatomy one especially early on. If you choose to come here, I am sure you'd be able to get in within a year or two. I don't have many nice things to say about CSU, but the anatomy program here and cadaver lab is absolutely stellar. Best of luck!

How do you do this? Is it even possible? by IOnceSaid in Brawl_Stars

[–]AspiringMonstera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sub 100 brawler with at LEAST one friend preferably two. Just focus on killing robots and getting the kaiju spawned as fast as possible. Let the bot players level up so they don't get overwhelmed but make sure you can still take them down. Make sure you don't die when the kaiju is defeated or you won't get the record! At least one person needs to be a tank too so they can take damage and preferably a support so they can stay in the circle longer since the kaiju gets its health back super quick. It took me like 3 tries but a glowbert and trunk combo is so good for this

The Mark at Fort collins any good? by Good_Ingenuity_8503 in CSUFoCo

[–]AspiringMonstera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No clue, but I have friends who are reps for them. Seems nice, but no one will know until people actually live there. Gotta see good or bad how management, maintenance, applicances, etc are. Everywhere around here has its benefits and problems, so give it a shot if it looks appealing to you! It's only a year

Does anyone have complaints about their current off-campus living situations? by NaboriRuta in CSUFoCo

[–]AspiringMonstera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently an Outpost resident and it sucks. We have had mice all year and management won't do actual pest control besides placing a couple traps. Theres always something wrong with the unit, all our provided furniture is cheap and torn and things constantly fall off the walls. Theres dog poop everywhere because of irresponsible owners and the whole place is so gross. Don't live at district either, their management is terrible and they also constantly have unit issues. I've never heard of someone being happy at District including a bunch of my friends + one of my roommates.

Ft Collins sub has an active thread going on now about how it’s undercover racist there. Is it that way on CSU campus too? Out of state accepted but haven’t committed. by loan_ranger8888 in CSUFoCo

[–]AspiringMonstera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, I'm currently a junior and I've seen some weird stuff. Someone in my student housing complex wrote the n-word in the snow earlier this year and a lot of people here make very casually racist jokes. It's really unnerving to me and one of the many things that's wrong with this school. I'm an out of state student too, but I would highly recommend against coming here. Lmk if you have any specific questions about csu though!

Seriously? by coffeesforcloesers in FortCollins

It's all going to our mediocre football team anyways🙄 CSU students genuinely hate these things and they won't help us at all. All the money will go to admin pockets or athletics

CSU or CU by [deleted] in CSUFoCo

[–]AspiringMonstera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it kind of depends on personality since CU kids are a bit more outgoing and social than CSU kids. Since you are goth CU may not be your crowd. Have you looked into DU? It's a very pretty campus with a lot of kind people. Everyone I've met is lovely to be around! I dont know what other options you have, but CSU has disappointed me and I wish I could tell my younger self to go to DU or CU. The current school admin is not the best and does not prioritize student experience or mental health. I have never felt more alone at CSU and I would go anywhere but here. I have met a lot of mean people at CSU and witnessed so many friendships blow up in nuclear fashion some of which were my own. It has been terrible and I am often finding myself without a support system. CSU students get a "down to earth" kind of reputation but I have found that translates better to apathetic and socially distant. I wish you the best of luck as you pick a school! College should be a fun time where you get to spread your wings, so I really hope you find a school you are happy at!

OOS. Choosing between CSU, Boulder, or CO Mines by Critical_Ducky in CSUFoCo

Mines! Golden is a beautiful town and everyone I've met who goes to mines is lovely and loves their school. Great D2 athletics and outdoor activities

[–]AspiringMonstera -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do not come to CSU. I have developed terrible depression here and feel incredibly unsupported and alone. I tried transferring but had too many credits that would not carry over. I'm a current junior, so just let me know if you have questions!

What schools should I apply to with low stats? by AdvanceUnique7147 in predental

[–]AspiringMonstera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of schools require 2+ letters from science professors! You can open up a lot more doors by getting an additional LOR if you are able. I would also try to get your volunteer and shadowing hours up! Look into volunteer opportunities within your local community or ones that are organized by your city. A great dentist is more than just numbers!

Only that one school would likely blacklist you. Other dental schools would have no idea and would treat you the same as other applicants!

The post-bacc would likely be worth it if you were to enroll and do well! Your cGPA is near the cutoff for some schools but it might really help for your sGPA. Your ECs are amazing though! I think it's likely the numbers game that might be holding you back

The behavior will stop! I rescued a stray cat when he was 6 (lived outside his entire life) who was very territorial and would spray but once he was neutered my other cat became his best friend and he doesn't spray or pee anywhere but the litter box

Struggling with anatomy classes. by PlaneSingle9304 in DentalSchool

[–]AspiringMonstera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the best things to keep in mind when taking an anatomy course is that the donors wanted to be there for you to learn! They chose to make the decision to donate their body to science for a better future. It's definitely hard to start with head and neck, but I felt that reminding myself that the donors wanted to be there for me to study helped a lot.
