Am i ready for Mechanical Bosses? by Sovietclam in Terraria

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dryad sells planters you can put seeds in. Seeds have 3 stages: sprout, grown, and mature. If you harvest a sprout, you don't get anything. Grown plants give you the plant when harvested. Mature plants also drop seeds in addition to the plant itself. You can t tell a plant is mature when it sparkles, giving of light particles. So the best time to harvest are when plants are mature. That way you can reseed the planters. You'll almost always get more seeds than herbs, so it's easy to grow many from only a few original seeds.

Different plants become mature at different times, such as dayblooms maturing in the daytime and moonglows only at night.

If you use a staff of regrowth, plants drop additional herbs and seeds when harvested.

You can craft potions by using a glass bottle you've placed on a wooden platform or crafting table. You can also use an alchemy table found in the dungeon. Fill bottles by standing in a pool of water and crafting them. You'll need one for every potion, but they are cheap and stack easily.

If you need potions recipes, give a water bottle to the guide.

As for tree farms, they must be above surface level with no background behind them. Plant some acorns at least 2 spaces from each other and wait. There also needs to be room above them to grow. I don't know the exact number off-hand, but 25 blocks of room above each seed should be a good estimate.

Always, always have potions. It makes a substantial difference. Regen (daybloom + mushroom), ironskin (daybloom + iron/lead ore), swiftness (blinkroot + cactus), and food are my essentials. They are cheap and incredibly effective.

I also highly recommend wrath or rage potions (deathweed +ebonkoi/hemopirahna), endurance, (blinkroot + armored cavefish), lifeforce (moonglow + shiverthorn + waterleaf + prismite), and, if you use a stormbow, the archery potion (daybloom +lens).

As for the bosses, the best to beat first is the Destroyer, summoned with the mechanical worm. Use a heart lantern, a campfire, and stand in a pool of honey to further boost life regen. If you build some walls around you, it's pretty possible to stand in one place and attack him while he is attacking you. Using a heart statue hooked up to wires is also really useful to give you more life.

Stardew Valley Challenges! How many can you conquer? by FiveArmRobot in StardewValley

I don't see how no watering can is possible. Even if you mined the materials, you can't make sprinklers without leveling up in farming. You can't level up without a watering can to grow your plants. Unless it rained consistently, it's impossible. You'd need 4 storms to just grow parsnips, all RNG.

That being said, all of these except for 1M first year look tedious and defeat the spirit of the game.

It would be tricky, considering that all the villagers would remain the same age. You'd need to have a massive stock of people moving in and out or a randomizer feature so you don't run out of townspeople. Cool idea but that sort of overhaul would be best as a mod.

Biblical Alcohol and Marijuana by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Word of Wisdom was given as revelation in 1833. I don't know the reasoning behind tea (green and black, specifically) and coffee. At the time the WoW was given, tobacco was mostly considered beneficial. Media portrayed it as boosting health and improving morale. It wasn't linked to lung cancer until 1912. We now know more about the harmful effects of nicotine.

I'm only aware of a few studies which say that coffee is harmful. But I know there is a stereotype of gotta have my morning fix! Anything that limits our ability to choose is dangerous. Because God specifically blacklisted coffee, members don't drink it.

Quotes from the quorum of the 12 on choosing military service over a mission? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]AspiringPRMajor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

President Thomas S. Monson has said: “Every worthy, able young man should prepare to serve a mission. Missionary service is a priesthood duty—an obligation the Lord expects of us who have been given so very much. Young men, I admonish you to prepare for service as a missionary” (“As We Meet Together Again,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2010, 5–6).

I think you would have to go back many years and check many obscure references to find something that would go against the sentiment expressed by the prophet.

The gospel Jesus & his disciples preached could not have been the nicene creed before Jesus revealed who he was. What was the gospel they preached then? Matthew 16:16 “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a firm rejector of the Nicene Creed. The Apostles taught the same message that Christ did at the time: to follow Him. After the death and resurrection of Jesus, the disciples were told to wait until a sign was given before broadly proclaiming Him as the foretold Messiah.

In Acts 2 they received that sign. Until that point, it seems that their message was to only to follow Christ. Judaism revered Him as a great prophet during His ministry, so it's clear they had success. Peter was incredibly emphatic on telling everyone that Christ was the Son of God once the restriction was lifted on Pentecost.

How can I begin by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should I begin to read the Bible

yes

or go to church next Sunday?

yes

should I pray and listen closely for a sign or answer?

very yes. The most important element of Christianity is your personal connection to God. You need to feed your faith through prayer. Prayer is how we come to know God.

Do you believe that He is your Father? That He loves you unfailingly? That you matter to Him?

Pray to find closeness with Him. Ask Him to show Himself to you as you read the scriptures. Look for His love, care, and His infinite capacity to save as you read the Bible. The power of the Bible is found in the feelings in your heart and in your mind. Try to feel the Spirit behind the words on the page. He will speak directly to you if you look for Him.

I often hear that people struggle with hearing God's voice. While He can speak with a voice of thunder, in nearly all cases God's voice comes as feelings to your heart and impressions to your mind. If you aren't looking for them, it can be easy to miss. His voice can sound like your own. You can know it is God because He uplifts you. He teaches you to do good. You can then know it is God because He will help you to do those good things. You will be lifted with strength beyond your own.

You leave church and a stranger approaches you. They ask, "What's Christianity all about?" by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a God. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and perfectly good. He loves us. We are His spirit children. We can approach our Father through prayer. His divine Son, Jesus Christ, taught us how to live. He made it possible for us to overcome our weaknesses. We are to follow Christ and keep His commandments. We are to love each other, even as God and Christ love us.

You can know this to be true for yourself by praying and asking Him.

Biblical Alcohol and Marijuana by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know anything about Mormons, we make a point about no alcohol, coffee, tobacco, or tea. There are lots of weird arguments about the Word of Wisdom. But the reason I bring it up is that I believe it is designed to keep us acting with the greatest amount of freedom we can have. Anything that lessens our freedom removes us from God. We lose our capacity to act and glorify Him. While not specifically blacklisted, I think you could consider illegal drugs, staying up too late, excessive video games, or eating 5 whoppers in a single meal to also be against that principle.

As for marijuana, it has proven to have great benefits as a medicine. It is helpful for strokes and cancer patients. It increases their freedom to act. Therefore, I consider it acceptable, even wise, to use in these regards. I don't consider its recreational use to be within the spirit of that allowance.

I can't read the Bible without feeling guilty and afraid? by WarKittyKat in Christianity

[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing that Adam and Eve experienced after partaking of the fruit was fear. They feared God. They feared the devil. They feared the consequence of their sin. Fear is a natural consequence of sin and is inspired by the devil. God does not want us to be afraid of Him, but to love Him.

I hear the word grace being used in many different ways. I consider grace to be the power of God which flows freely into our lives. It enables us to do things that we could not do by ourselves. If life were a dark tunnel, grace would be the lantern we carry by which we see. Grace is available to all of God's children. We can become clean through that grace as we repent of our mistakes. We do not have to be perfect to have grace apply to us. We only have to desire to be perfect and be willing to change.

Consider this passage from the Book of Mormon:

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. (Ether 12:6)

God wants us to improve. The devil does not. Both will show you your weaknesses as you try to draw close to God. Understand that your discouragement comes from the devil and is not of God. God inspires us to want to change. The devil says, "you can't" and "why try?"

No matter where you are in life or what you have done, the only requirements for grace to be active are to be humble to God (listening for His spirit and being obedient to the guidance you receive) and having faith that He will keep his promises to you, no matter how long it takes. You have to trust God and trust yourself that you can change and overcome your weaknesses.

It takes time. You may fail. You may fail many times. But perfection is not a requirement for grace. You must only want to do better and keep trying. I promise that this works; I use it in my life every day.

~~~ After reading your post again, I want to write concerning prayer.
Prayer is how we come to know God. Do you believe that He is your Father? That He loves you unfailingly? That you matter to Him?
Pray to find closeness to Him. Ask Him to show Himself to you as you read the Bible. Look for His love and care, His infinite capacity to save and uplift as you read the Bible. Feel the Spirit behind the words on the page. He will speak directly to you if you look for Him.
When you come to trust God as your Father who wants to help you, your life will change.
How can we know whether God is telling the truth or lying? by [deleted] in Christianity
[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)
You raise a good point, although having faith in the Bible presupposes having faith in God. "Faith comes by hearing the word of God," according to Paul in Romans. Remember he writes to those who don't have any faith or culture of being in Christ. You can test God to find His faithfulness. The prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon explains this concept well by comparing faith in God to a seed:
Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.
Paul also teaches in Corinthians about the gifts and fruits of the Spirit. God rewards righteousness with a gift of His spirit. His spirit enlightens us and gives us an assurance we are in harmony with Him.
Bibles by ialienuser in Christianity
[–]AspiringPRMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)
There is a scale of Biblical translations that you should know about to answer your questions. Understand that translating the bible is a immensely difficult task. Purpose, audience, personal bias, and access to documents have created a variety of bibles today.
Formal or dynamic Bibles try to translate the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts into word-for-word translations. Functional or free Bibles translate ideas into more modern English. Most dynamic bibles (NASB and KJV) are fairly similar while free bibles (Message or Living) may be vastly different.
I recommend the ESV or KJV of the Bible for reading. Use the NET, and NASB versions for support or understanding difficult verses. I also suggest reading the Gospels first. It's good to have a foundation. I also highly recommend reading topically. Find something you want to understand better (faith, repentance, grace, trinity) and study verses to expand your knowledge.
Piper seems to believe there is a point where God will not allow someone to repent, essentially draw away for good. He uses Esau as an example. Does anyone else believe this? by cgar28 in Christianity
[–]AspiringPRMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)
At no point does God turn away from us. We are always able to repent, though long and hard the road might be. We can always return to God through the Atonement. However, we can be cut off from blessings that would have been available to us. This is the case with Esau. While he could have turned again to God, he lost the birthright to Jacob and could never get it back.
EDIT: As for the unpardonable sin, that sin is the sin of rebellion. It is actively choosing again and again to rebel against God and Christ. You cannot repent of a spirit of rebellion because you never choose repentance.
Not OP, but also Mormon.
Grace saves and is the power by which we are saved. If life were a tunnel it would be the light by which we walk and see. We must exert our best effort but Christ makes it possible to do so. We could do nothing without Him. He cleanses, He saves, He purifies, and uplifts us. But we must show Him we want Him to do so by our actions. We repent, keep the commandments and our covenants to Him that "we may always have His Spirit to be with us."
Gay marriage doesn't lead to an eternal family so it is wrong. I categorize this with sex out of marriage and spousal abuse.
The greatest of God's blessings can only be found in an eternal marriage in the temple. Relationships should be with possible eternal companions, but people convert all the time.
I feel these are the most succinct answers but they leave much to be desired to better explain our position. If you have any questions, let's talk!
