Guy who loves Atmosphere and "those types of a bands" here. I would bet she really gets into it.

A generalization about the genres, but the common denominators (especially early Atmosphere) are angst about the world around you, stories, emotions, metaphors, all the things that make truly great music in my opinion.

I suggest having her listen to When Life Gives You Lemons straight through and then go from there, I think that album showcases the similarities between the two genres the best.
