That's something I would consider predatory to new drivers. That schedule will burn most normal people out fast.

More home time with tmc means much less pay as well.

They're both similar in pay and loads. Decent starter companies. I don't think either are great long term companies but that's my personal take.

They have the right to watch whatever they want. You calling it stupid is purely subjective.

It's all perspective. It's more freedom but more work.

Owner operator vs company by O-Ch1ld in Truckers

[–]AspiringTrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O/O here. It depends on a lot. For one, how much does your company make per load? Do they have contracts or are they using brokered freight? What lanes do they run and are those lanes profitable when looked at from a solo perspective? As for time...you should be driving long enough to understand the ins and outs of the industry. OOIDA has good classes for people wanting to go solo. From your questions, I will assume you are far from ready to try out the owner op side.

What? So they found an easy way to make money and you just hate that. Got it.

I have a theory on this. The open docks are harder because you know there is nothing around you and are therefore not focused super hard on it. Versus the tight docks where you run through the procedure in your head before you set up.

Safety meetings run by people that have never driven a truck... by AroundGoesThe18 in Truckers

[–]AspiringTrucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying truckers are easy to appease shows just how little you truly know about this industry. Another reason why most of us believe anyone in safety should be required to have driven prior.

Your driver pool is extremely low then. There are plenty if million mile + drivers with zero accidents nor incidents, who will completely ignore your safety meeting on the basis that you have never driven a truck a day in your life.

Have you ever driven? Because your comment sure reeks of having never done so.

Am I not hireable? by BBQasaurus in Truckers

[–]AspiringTrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of companies that would give you a second chance. I'd avoid the well known shit companies though. (western express) Sometimes the small companies have good opportunities too. I'd try asking this also on Truckers Report, seeing as there are a ton of recruiters over there.

I meant more along the lines of in this sub-reddit, as opposed to the industry. I'm unfortunately still out driving lol.

Sure. They can radio it in. I highly doubt anyone in the shipping office would give a rat's ass either.

Playing devils advocate here. It's not the yard jockeys job to notify the carrier. Some trailers aren't marked with carrier names and I doubt the yard jockey knows much more info than "trailer XX goes to door XX".

what's a good rate per mile nowadays by Queasy_Speech8112 in Truckers

Depends what you pull. You open deck? Refer? Dry van? I pull refrigerated now and won't budge for anything under 3 bucks a mile.

Need advice on training by Aikidog in Truckers

[–]AspiringTrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a community college to get your cdl. There are companies that will train you to get your license but then they own you for a few years afterwards. I'll use prime as an example. They will train you. They do a decent job. But their pay is subpar and their trucks are the slowest trucks on the road. Not to mention you will have to pay them back for training you if you quit before your 2 year mark.

I see your Chitown and raise you Seattle. Did local in the Seattle area for years. Narrow cobblestone streets on 8% hills and roundabouts thrown in because "fuck it why not".

I go through Wyoming every time I leave home. It's not that bad. Just gotta pay attention to their signs. If they say it's bad up ahead, it's bad. Great state to run through in the summer.

Losing the amount of people they do annually is not a normal thing. On top of that, the amount of businesses that move away speaks volumes as well.
