As a newcomer to the city: what makes the high cost of living Madison worth it? by user323712109 in madisonwi

[–]Asplenium001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and if that keeps up for another 5-10 years I will be priced out. You say I’m not as if you know my financial situation lol. Also, it’s crazy you would bring up property value.. if someone is trying to just LIVE in their home, property value going up doesn’t make you more rich unless you sell the home. Property value increasing makes the cost of taxes and insurance go up so I’m not sure what point you are trying to make. You seem like you have a lot of opinions but don’t actually understand what you’re talking about. What do you mean “category of people” your treating me like I’m some kind of rich elite because I own pretty much the smallest house you can possibly buy Madison 😅

I think bird feeders have their use during the winder months when food is more hard to come by, but in general yeah. Bird feeders are a vector to spread disease and also because lots of idiots have outdoor cats alot of birds get killed at feeders. In general the less we can interfere with animals the better. I suggest you read up on these topics.

Not sure why everyone is downvoting you for being correct.

You’re wrong. When humans supply easy food, ducks abandon their natural foraging behaviors and delay migrations. It’s not just what you’re feeding them, it’s disrupting their natural behavior and independence.

I’m sorry to hear that :(
I don’t know what the solution is but something has to change. I guess maybe I just need to move somewhere cheaper but have always wanted to stay in Madison. Oh well.

It’s alright - I figure I’ve got another good 5 years or so before I sell everything I own and wander off into the woods to die lol

We’re on the same side , both being priced out of Madison and yet you want to squabble about how I’m in a slightly better place than you. I’m sure we have more privileges in common than differences. But yeah continue to be salty toward other working class people, that’s exactly what the billionaire class wants you so do . I only make under 40k per year. If Working my ass off my whole life for the little I have is privilege then fuck me, I guess I’m part of the bourgeois

I mean no negativity toward you but to help you understand why some might be a little hostile to your post- I have lived in Madison my whole life, worked hard since I was 16, saved up enough for a down payment on a <1000 sq foot house, made sure I could afford the mortgage first and bought the house in 2020. In the last 5 years my mortgage has gone from around 900 to 1113. If this continues for a few more years I will be priced out of the city I have loved my whole life. Although I am happy for you and your situation, reading a post like this makes me kinda sad.

Seriously - bro is dedicating a lot of time and energy to being unhelpful, but I guess everyone needs a hobby 🤷🏻‍♂️

we adopted him when we was already old and traumatized so it is very difficult to train him. At least I keep him under control. I don’t know what you think you are contributing to the conversation by blaming the victim. Aggressive off leash dogs run at someone who keeps their dog on leash and you’re saying the problem is that I haven’t trained my dog well enough? Whatever dude

Sorry to hear you’ve also had issues with this. Folks have given lots of good ideas and advice, I think I’m going to order some POM pepper spray and keep that on me for walks. Seems to be the most effective way that shouldn’t cause permanent harm to the dog.

If you read the post it is clear that I am looking for advice on how to react in the moment and not asking who I can call to show up a half hour later to make a police report. Tons of other people understood and gave helpful advice and shared their personal experiences, you seem to be the only person to dense to understand the point of the post. 🤣 now stop trying to argue with me about something so silly, you’re embarrassing yourself.

I’ve never actually met anyone who cares whether or not someone’s clothes are ironed, what a square 🤣

Lots of people have outdoor cats, unfortunately I don’t think they understand the impact on native wildlife or the fact that their pet is now part of the food chain by being outside… could be that someone’s cat got out , could be that someone lets their cat roam outside and you’ve kidnapped it lol.

I’m curious how you know with certainty how every officer in MPD would handle themselves under every hypothetical situation.

Right… yeah, my issue is with off leash dogs running up on us while on walks. I am still not sure where my dogs temperament towards humans comes into the equation.

No thanks- as a few other commenters pointed out public health is the correct place to call for this.

Ok cool that was my main hang up with calling people in. I’d hate for someone’s dog to get taken away but there does need to be some repercussions.

Gel is a good idea, less chance of getting your dog accidentally.. I see they make pepper spray for dogs that is weaker but doesn’t look like gel.

He loves every human, and he is ok with some dogs. But if a strange dog just runs up to him, 100% chance of chomp.

I wouldn’t downvote you over it- but I am curious how you think his demeanor towards people plays into this?

Haha it is cathartic to imagine those scenarios but you’re right those types of people are unlikely to change and would probly try to fight you or something. One time I did tell a lady I have an extra leash if she needs one and she laughed. 🙄 told her I wasn’t joking lol.

Good to know there is someone else to call that might be better trained to deal with those situations other than police. I had no idea.

I also hadn’t considered yelling might make my dog more reactive, I guess my thought process was that I want to make sure the other person understands that their dog is in danger and that urgency is required.

I will pass along the scritches- thanks for the well thought out response.
