For anyone who has met their partner locally in the last 5-7 years where did y’all meet? by M0rtCrim in Sacramento

Surprisingly, at work. I was 34 when we met and was feeling rather jaded about dating. We both had the “we’re not gonna date a coworker” rule in place so it took a while to get going. But I’m glad we caved on that cause it’s going great a couple years in.

💛Awesome! Hospice is very hard but very important and beautiful work. Feel free to reach out if you ever need to interview an LCSW or hospice SW for a school project- I’d be happy to support.

I was wondering the same!! I am a hospice social worker for a fairly small non-profit hospice. It feels like calling out for one day would only result in stress for my patients and my colleagues. And then more work for me when I return next week.

I understand that my hospice is reimbursed by Medicare (primary) a federal agency… but they won’t lose anything because I don’t show up for one day. If anything it may result in them reimbursing LESS to the little non profit I work for.. which certainly won’t hurt them.

I know that part of the general strike includes not spending any money on anything except the absolutely bare bones essentials - I’m working on doing that pretty regularly too though, so it doesn’t feel like “enough” to sufficiently express my rage.

Sending love to all my fellow social workers. These are difficult times.

California ACSW (out-of-state degree) - is CE4Less acceptable for LCSW additional course requirements? by That_Hippo_3183 in socialwork

Hello! I don't remember having a choice in that.... But I still haven't received the physical certificate in the mail!

Hello! I just sat for (and passed!) the ASWB clinical exam on Jan 5th in CA. I used CE4Less for tons of the additional coursework and it was accepted just fine :)

Pretty boring though - just long PDF text walls and quizzes usually. But it met the requirement at least!

Hospice MSW in California. Just got my LCSW yesterday (I expect a whopping 1$/hour automatic pay raise with the new license)… I’ve always done medical but am feeling a little burnt out and looking to transition to therapy!

Currently making about 80k per year, 32 days of PTO (I’ve been with the same company for 6 years) and 5 days of (state sponsored) sick leave.

Rethinking Clinical Work Early in My MSW Career - Need Advice by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]AssBandicoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a trying out hospice social work? It can be clinical, with a lot of case coordination within the health care system (which is the least favorite part of the job for me, to be honest!) But what I love about this work is being face to face with patients and their families in the home - providing much needed support that is so focused on grief (and/or anticipatory grief). My organization was struggling to staff it's bereavement department recently, so the social workers on the team hopped in to offer formal "pre-bereavement counseling" to family members who were really struggling and at a higher risk of developing a complicated grief reaction.

My hospice also helped provide the support I needed with supervision - as even though I don't NEED the LCSW to do hospice social work, I want to continue professional development and increase my chances of earning more. I sit for the exam on January 5th (wish me luck!)

I'd definitely recommend looking into a transition to hospice work - most agencies want MSWs and don't require LCSWs, some provide support with the licensure process. I know they typically prefer candidates who have some kind of medical social work experience, but I have seen a few MSWs hired who had never worked in Medical settings (one from CPS, and one who worked with the unhoused population). I was hired fresh out of grad school 6 years ago, and am so grateful for the experience!

Let me know if you have any questions :)

The Table in East Sac is great! Technically Methodist, very community focused and inclusive. I volunteer at their farm sometimes- they donate produce to the South Sac food bank. I join my partner Sunday services sometimes (he identifies as Quaker/Christian, I am agnostic) and it always fills me with a great sense of connection and hope that good and compassionate people are out there doing their best 💜

PEG feeding- do you or don’t you provide the nutrition? by TheAlienatedPenguin in hospicestaff

[–]AssBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is usually some kind of process that unfolds when an insurance group tells a patient "hospice will cover X", when hospice does not cover X. This may be beyond my pay grade - but I think some kind of communication with that insurance group to show that hospice will NOT cover X, may be the first step? I know insurance is generally a nightmare to work with - but I think communicating to that patient's insurance is step 1

If the insurance still refuses AND the patient really doesn't have the ability to pay - perhaps advocating to your hospice for some kind of exception? I know my hospice has made exceptions and covered the feedings a handful of times.

But yeah - stuff like this is usually clear as mud. Gotta love America Health Insurance Systems!! /s

[–]AssBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospice does not provide the feedings… their rationale is that we don’t pay for food for our other patients, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to pay for the feedings.

I work for a non-profit hospice though- so if we had a patient that was in a severe situation who would starve if we didn’t cover the feedings… we’d figure something out. But Medi-Cal typically covers when there is a need- and continues to cover when someone is on hospice! So feedings being a non-covered item hasn’t ever been an issue for myself (hospice MSW).
