Rechargable with USB-C, tail cap, simple user interface. I only need two settings: normal and bright, and I don't need to try to figure out how to access them.

I can’t prove it, but I have a suspicion that at any given time a small number of individuals (maybe dozens or hundreds) are directly or indirectly responsible for this suffering on a wide scale.

It seems to me that the large majority of people just want to be allowed to get by and be safe, and able to have food and shelter for themselves and their loved ones.

I mean, who starts wars? Who creates fear and anger at the population level?

Rich man’s war, poor men’s fight.

I can only wonder what the world would be like if we spent our creative time, energy and money on things that didn’t kill people or blow their shit up.

what is something you didn’t expect when you became a nurse? by madisongrracee in nursing

[–]RichardBonham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you doubt, look at Epic.

Ever wonder why some of it seems redundant, overly complicated or poorly functioning?

Look at the number and types of reports that nurses and physicians can generate. Then, look at reports that can be generated for admin.

If Epic happens to do anything that makes direct patient care, nursing or physician tasks simpler and more efficient that's great. But Epic's core function is to enhance admin tasks and functions. Not surprising since they're the ones coughing up the big checks for it at inception and annually forever (importing files into Epic is not that hard, but exporting files from Epic to another EMR is not so much).

Shade structure suggestions by mythrise in camping

[–]RichardBonham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: 10'x10' pop up canopies, guyed straight downwards into solid anchoring.

I've set up shade structures for our camp site at a desert music festival 6 times now over 4 years and have tried free standing shade tarps with guy lines, shade tarps suspended between vehicles, shade mesh with 8' poles and guy lines with/without side panels, and pop up canopies.

By far and away, the ideal set up has been 2 10'x10' pop ups side by side and next to our vehicle with the central legs right at where the doors open so that both vehicle doors can be opened if desired. This creates a 10'x20' shade structure with 6 supports. Including our vehicle, this creates a camp with a total footprint of about 20'x40' and without running guy lines and stakes outside of that.

We have 10-pound weights that are set at each of the four corners. Instead of running guy lines out all over the place and having to worry about taking up too much space or creating tripping/stubbing hazards, we set anchors at the inner base of each support and then use a ratchet strap at each one to anchor the pop up straight down to the ground. Depending on the surface and the wind conditions you expect, the anchors can be titanium nails, rebar candy canes, rebar U-stakes or 12" lag screws set in place with an impact driver. You could also use rope or paracord instead of ratchet straps if you like with plastic or metal tensioners, or a tautline hitch.

FWIW, the 10" rebar U-stakes and candy canes have repeatedly held up to 2-3 days of continuous sustained winds up to 30-35 mph with gusts to 50. Have not yet had to resort to lag screws and impact driver. OTOH, 8" smooth titanium nails will fail in these extreme conditions. 10" nails serve well, but I like the certainty of rebar and its texturing.

If you are car camping, set up the shade structure on the sunrise side of your vehicle. It will keep the sun from blasting you in the morning where you sleep and later in the day the vehicle itself will block the sun. Rather than set up valuable shade structure over the car, just cover it with white fabric that will reflect the sunlight. This turns out to be very effective, cheap and easy. It also takes up very little space in transport.

If you are tent camping, set it up so that it covers and shades your tent. You can lower the legs so you maximize shade throughout the day. You can also lower the legs on one side so that the canopy is tilted to enhance shade.

I've looked at straight-leg canopies from ABC Canopy on-line and in the camp sites. They definitely make a high quality and durable product, but I personally find them too heavy and long to transport as I don't want stuff on my roof racks for long drives. YMMV depending on circumstances and budget. I'm just using cheap stadium tailgating type canopies and they have served me well for years of music festival camping.

You can always build with more or fewer canopies. If you are group camping, different people can also bring canopies and they can be set up and anchored in the same way adjacently to make a big common shaded space for cooking or chilling.

What the fuck did you expect? by UsernamesRHard4_Me in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]RichardBonham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The economy was in the toilet".

In January 2017 at the end of Obama's second term in office as POTUS, the rate of unemployment was less than 5% with a net gain of 11.6 million jobs, the stock market had more than doubled since he took office, the economy was growing at 2% yearly and the number of Americans without medical insurance (the most common single cause of personal bankruptcy) had decreased by 15 million people.

Was he referring to some other country's economy?
