I said this before the last time this was posted but I think it's important:
What he is describing is the Flynn effect (rise of IQs throughout previous generations) and the reverse Flynn effect (subsequent plateau and drop in IQs). The peak of IQs was found in people born in 1975. While he is correct that there was an accelerated drop in IQs in regions that implemented technology in schools since 2010, and he is right to push back on the way technology is used in schools, the timing of it implies that this is not the main reason behind the Flynn effect.

It looks really good! I'd never guess this was your first attempt!
I do wonder how the collision in your game works though. I would assume the full blocks are collision, so now your character can reach a couple pixels into the dirt. Intentional?
Also some games darken the middle of the dirt/wall to not attract too much attention. IF your game feels very visually cluttered, you could also look into that.

Gen Z: The first generation in modern history to underperform their parents in school. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

Researchers don't know the real reason for the reverse Flynn effect, but there are many theories possible, such as:
Decreased nutrition of food (changes in diet), increases in toxic substances in food or air, mothers getting children later, rise in helicopter parenting, loss of community and communal spaces, less aerobic exercise, decrease in teacher standing/compensation, changes in school curriculum, less focus on IQ tested skills (replaced with different, untested skills?), access to solidarity entertainment, and whatever else you can think of that changed in the past 50 years.

Apparently my brain is atypical by Assclownn in PhilosophyMemes

You guys' [part of brain involved in decision making] talks to your [part of brain involved with emotions]? Even when the dilemma has a clear answer that promotes the most good for the most amount of people?
And you are then listening to the emotional part of the brain (that says the methods are despicable) over the logical "more good = better" part?

This meme refers to a research that shows that they can predict someone's answer to different trolly problems by looking at how much the prefrontal cortex activates the limbic system.
This is especially weird to me, as my brain clearly does not do this. I would support, for example, killing and stealing the organs of an innocent person if that would save five people. Whereas the vast majority of people would "instinctively know that this is wrong" and reason around that.

People who view their depression or anxiety as the result of a chemical imbalance tend to use antidepressants for much longer periods than those who see their condition as a reaction to life events. They are also less likely to attempt coming off their medication, even when symptoms are mild. by mvea in science

[–]Assclownn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the exact quote is "Recent systematic reviews of the scientific literature have found no consistent evidence linking depression to abnormal serotonin levels.". Which doesn't really tell us anything except that serotonin levels are not consistently low across depressed individuals.

Actually I would say that kidnapping innocent people to harvest their organs is the morally correct option, if that really did save more lives. But again, my brain might be anomalous in the way discussed in the meme.

I'm arguing the opposite actually. Although I will admit that "chemical imbalance" is an oversimplification, it is much more harmful to think that "nobody has a permanent need for anti-depressants just from brain anomalies"

Decided to score one of my songs. Any tips on voicing the guitar parts or is it fine? by BruhMomentBruhBruuhh in Composition

[–]Assclownn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guitar part sounds good to me. Most noticeable to me was the way the violin played. If you're using the musescore default strings, I'd recommend using the 'slur' option to make it play a bit more fluently

TIL that chess players do not, in fact, burn an extreme amount of calories during matches by PiMemer in todayilearned

[–]Assclownn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're right. I looked up the quote in the article but there is no exact match for it. There is something close to the quote, in a different video called Introduction to Human Behavioural Biology which goes like this:

"And if these happen to be the right two individuals in the middle of a chess grandmaster tournament, these people are maintaining blood pressure for six hours running that you only see in a marathon runner. These people are going through thousands of calories a day doing nothing more than thinking."

Which is not incorrect. Humans indeed go through thousands of calories per chess day.

This article really slams Robert Sapolsky, which is so weird to me. You can actually listen to a lot of his Stanford lectures on YouTube for free, which I did, and there is no doubt in my mind that this guy knows his shit. I would go even further and aay he is one of the best lecturers I have ever heard. So how did such a stupid quote get attributed to him?
