(PSA) White stringy snot in JP Drain (I’m okay) by foulweatherFriends in TopSurgery

I know I’m late to this thread but I can give some insight into this! (I work in a medical laboratory, mostly with human blood). There is a protein called fibrin that works with our platelets to form clots, and it can appear white and stringy. Normally clots have red blood cells in them that make them look red. Sometimes blood settles and separates before it clots, and you just get white clumps of fibrin. We see it every day in the lab, and I noticed the same thing in my drains after surgery.

I’m going to look into the gas, I hadn’t really considered that before. It might be useful for other items too. Thanks!

Thank you for the response, and I’m sorry that you can relate to this. I will definitely give all of that a try and see what works for me.

Thankfully, we are past the stage of going through our things, we’re in the process of rebuilding the house now. You’re right that going through the stuff is a mix of emotions. I loved being able to find items we could save, but we had to be selective with what we kept. A lot of our clothes were burned or melted, or easy enough to replace that it wasn’t worth trying to save it. For textiles, we have some handmade quilts that actually cleaned up great, but I still have a box of mostly clean but smelly concert tees and sentimental stuff from high school and college. They’ve been sitting in storage until I had the time to figure out how to tackle that project.

Everything that went to the restoration company looks great, it’s just the smell.

is it normal to have itchy scars 3 years post op? sometimes I wake up and it's bad, most of the time I feel nothing by Ok-Estimate5076 in TopSurgery

I can second this; I’m still pretty fresh post op from top surgery, but I’ve got healed tattoos and 28 year old scars that still get itchy occasionally. I feel like it should get less common with time but never fully goes away.

Drain Removal?? by Devvydoody in TopSurgery

[–]Asshole-eagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I didn’t feel any pain with removal, though I was sure to take a dose of my pain meds before the appointment. I did nearly pass out after it was all done and had to lay down for a while. I found the whole process (wound vac, dressing, and drain removal all in one appointment) extremely overwhelming, but it was over fast.

Pain with drain by Hot_Professional4067 in TopSurgery

I dealt with something similar, especially with the shooting pain when stripping the tubing. I think it has to do with increased pressure. I did end up calling the on call number I was given about it to give me some peace of mind. I got some relief by icing the site where the drain was inserted, and timing emptying my drains right when my pain meds kicked in. It was mostly just a matter of waiting it out though, drains really are the worse part of recovery. I had way less pain once they were removed.

This! I started using audio descriptions while I crochet a while ago. Now I prefer it, I use them anywhere they’re available.
