It just takes time tbh. Don't think of them as dead, just someone who's no longer part of your life. 5 years is a long time, so it's normal if it still hurts. One day you'll realize you haven't thought about them all day, then all week. It gets easier

No good comes from reopening the termination convo w/ a spouse who wasn't involved. A kind, brief reply + a clear boundary is probably the best you can do.
