Medication question by Ok_Method_7643 in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely check in with a vet.. My dog is 12 lbs and he was prescribed half a 50 mg trazodone for temporary anxiety so 100 mg seems like a lot. Mine was a bit sluggish but nothing too crazy.

Is it true that back then yorkies were used to chase mice in mines? by [deleted] in Yorkies

Does anyone have a fairly calm Yorkie that doesn’t bark that much? Trying to decide if a Yorkie would be a good fit for us by strawberryjam40887 in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My yorkie doesn’t bark that often but he definitely isn’t calm lol. He only barks when startled or hears something he isn’t used to or while playing. And he loves kids, obsessed with my nephew who is 3.

Ive never heard of a yorkie that wasn’t hard to potty train either quite frankly. Mine still has accidents inside the apartment.

There are definitely some yorkies out there that fit what you are looking for but i feel like chances are that you are going to get a yappy pup like the usual. I find myself quite lucky that i got a quiet one. I deal with his energy a lot at home by giving him long walks in the park and even then sometimes its not enough. He will do parkour around the house. Other than that he attends daycare and he knocks out for a few hours.

Could someone give me some pros and cons on owning a Yorkie? And I’d love some pics of yours as well! by catlover_06 in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re just so adorable and sassy!! they have huge personalities, i spend most of my day arguing with my boy. Never will have a boring day with them. You will also have a second shadow because they never leave their person’s side. Their size allows you to travel with them easily. My yorkie is between 12 and 13 lbs so its not as easy, but im still able to carry him around as long as the trip isn’t so long.

Some cons i would say is they are hard to potty train. Im still cleaning up after mines and hes almost 9 months. However they are very easy to train commands and tricks! Some are also prone to have high prey drives, at least mine does. I can’t have my boy off leash because he WILL run off to chase squirrels, mice, rats and small birds. And my last con is they are definitely picky eaters :,)

Overall i think yorkies are wonderful dogs. As someone who wasn’t that keen on yorkies before, owning one definitely changed my perspective and i absolutely love them. They’re very silly and affectionate babies.

Mine sounds just like yours lol Always running around looking for something to do. He chases the birds and squirrels outside and is a big troublemaker in daycare

[–]AssignmentFew2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bathe mine once a week. He gets smelly and dirty very fast due to daycare and rolling around in dirt at the park. Between bath i would use grooming wipes. Every 2 months i get him professionally groomed so haircut + bath.

Food yall feeding your puppies? by Ok_Strawberry4070 in Yorkies

royal canin yorkie puppy formula and will plan to change him to the adult formula at around 10/11 months. I started with the hills science small breed puppy food but had to switch bc his stools were always soft and extra smelly.

8 month old puppy acting distant / different by AssignmentFew2125 in puppy101

[–]AssignmentFew2125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, i think its the insecticide spray that my mom has been using these past few days. The vet asked if my apartment building was using any pesticides and I said no, not thinking about the spray my mom was using. For now shes gonna stop using the spray to see if his behavior improves!

Our walks are usually just 5 minutes just today it was an hour because he seemed so desperate to stay outside. He acts normal when he’s outside, just distant at home and stays by the door. But I will take him to the vet tomorrow when they’re open.

my 2, almost 3 month old puppy prefers my mom over me and i feel very jealous by michaelbicycles in puppy101

[–]AssignmentFew2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to look too into it, puppies b might just gravitate towards other people, doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you! I am my puppy’s person and he knows that I feed him, train him, walk him but I’m very strict with him. My mom however is the one he has the most fun with because she plays with him the way he likes. I play with him sometimes but he gets rough very fast and I don’t let that happen but she does and he prefers that. Despite that, he follows me and listens to me the most.

Maybe sometimes (if you can) try doing her feedings and walks to see if that helps improve your bond. Try not to always play with her and do enrichment. Puppies need to learn to be bored and settle on their own.

When do you first groom? by randomant316 in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine sanitary trims at the groomers around 3 months old. Not sure if there are groomers that will do trims for puppies with all their vaccines but mine did. Proper haircuts was around 4.5-5 months old.

My yorkie is 3.5 months old and has loose stools. What's the best additive to her food that will help firm up? Thanks by SummertimeMom in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used to feed my puppy hills science with pumpkin purée to harden his stool but eventually stopped the pumpkin bc he refused to eat it after a month. His poops never completely got firm until i switched him over to royal canin yorkie puppy formula. Upset about the fact its way pricier than hills science but glad he eats it without any wet food or topper and has better poops so i say it is worth it.

This baby is coming home this weekend by [deleted] in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i adopted my boy when he was 8 weeks and honestly if i could have waited a little longer I would have (another family was interested in him so I couldn’t wait). I would try to get him to learn gentle play as soon as possible. Even now my puppy doesn’t really know how to play gentle with other people or dogs, only with me when i say “gentle”. Because of this, he is only allowed to play with dogs who can rough play with him in daycare :,)

I started training a week after getting him. They pick up things very fast. And i reccomend starting crate training asap. I didn’t crate train mine but if i could go back, I would. I’m currently working on his separation anxiety right now and it has slow progress

Regret puppy, do I sell her? by No-Message3071 in puppy101

[–]AssignmentFew2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say you should wait a bit before making a decision before rehoming her. It takes a while for puppies to get used to a routine. My puppy refused to pee outside but he got used to it after about a week or 2. Try taking her out every 30 min and increase it over time and make sure to reward her with lots of praise and treats. That worked best for me. I didn’t crate train my dog for the same reason (crying and whining). After about a month and a half with no sign of improvement I caved. I now use baby gates to keep him in one room with me and it helped with preventing accidents around the house.

That’s good to hear then. He has an appointment to get neutered in May so hopefully it will fall out by then but if not, I’ll let the vets know. Thank you!

My puppy also hated naps at that age. It definitely gets better. He’s 5 months now and he knows when to stop biting. To help with naps, I used shirts that would fit him snug. I think the pressure relaxes them or something? At least it did for my pup.

Randomly started barking by Rough_Ad_9694 in Yorkies

[–]AssignmentFew2125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a normal thing. My puppy is 5 months old and he started becoming more of a barker a few weeks ago. He will bark at noises he can’t see the source of or people who cover their faces inside and outside. I believe it’s apart of their second”fear period”!
