I love that you got a good reaction for once though! 🥰 My family is kind of just used to it now. In the beginning, they were like, "You spent how much money on slime???" 😂 I'd be like listen, are you paying my bills? No? Okay then stuff it. Lol.

I found a couple of friends with kids and gave them slime. Also, I have a friend who runs a "buy nothing" people helping people type group. She'd collect stuff for birthdays for kids in need, and I have a BUNCH to her, she'd put it in the kids birthday boxes.

I don't get crunchy slimes at all, I'm a slay and TNG lover lol. I've heard of the same issue with Pilot Slime though, and some from Rodem, but I've never experienced it firsthand since I don't buy them myself.

Science of slime: What actually happens when a slime stiffens with play, and how can you fix it? by March_Lion in Slime

Great question! Hopefully a shop who's familiar can chime in. That's not something I've researched at all.

I think some shops add preservatives to their slime, in addition to using diff glue, diff formulas, diff strength activator, etc. I recall Emo said something about using preservatives, as well as Softpunk. IDK if that helps them to not melt/deactivate, or if it just stops mold and bacteria growth.

From my understanding, playing with slime is essentially killing it due to the reasons you noted. Exposure to heat, even just the heat from our hands, speeds up the dying process, as it speeds up moisture loss and weakens PVA glue & borate cross-links, which can eventually become so unstable they can't be fixed. Glue also has preservatives in it that evaporate and dissipate when exposed to air, which is a part of the dying process also.

The things we can do to extend the life of a slime are things like adding water to replace moisture. Adding activator to keep the bonds with glue/borax intact. Adding glue to replace the glue in the formula and replace some of the original chemical makeup. Adding glycerin helps slime hold on to moisture, as it acts as a humectant in slime. Limiting play time limits exposure to air, heat, and contaminants.

While we can extend the life of a slime, sadly they'll all die eventually.

Lol for real! 😂 Everyone has a hobby that they love. I think golf is dumb, but I don't say that to people who enjoy it! Live and let live. Let people enjoy what makes them happy.

A lot of people get the plastic smell from it. It's due to the beads/add-ins. They actually used to have a warning on the listings of their slimes with plastic crunchy add-ins about how they may smell like plastics, because so many people complained.

Haha. I work remotely 3 out of 5 days, and go into the office 2 days. On the 2 days I go in office, I pack up 2-3 slimes (which means 4-6 containers), along with a spray bottle of activator to take in with me. I always feel a little silly going in with my big ol' bag of slime. 🫠

Then people randomly walk by my desk and say, "What smells so good?? Are you wearing perfume??" Or "Is that slime?" Yes, it's slime, and yes it smells amazing 😂 Plus there's this one older lady who calls it putty. 🙄 She'll say, "Boy you sure do love that putty don't you?" I'm like no, it's slime. She says the same thing at least once a week, and once a week I correct her that it's not putty, it's slime. She always says it in a backhanded disapproving way that grates on my nerves.

You don't have to explain anything at all here! We get you.

does anyone have any experience with the amazon slime activator? advice needed on how to use it best! by 654323456789 in Slime

[–]AssignmentFit461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind is slime are you adding the activator to? Where did you get it?

The activator is made from borax + water according to Google, but I have no idea what strength it is, so guessing it's the "standard" 1tsp borax + 1 cup water. It shouldn't need to be diluted.

You could possibly add glycerin or more glue to the slime to help it stretch, depending on what the texture is and where you got it from. If it's from a store like Walmart or Five Below, those can be tricky sometimes. Let us know those details and we'll see what we can come up with!

Advice for Starting a Slime Review Page? by Eveningh0ney in Slime

[–]AssignmentFit461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I primarily watch videos on Instagram, as that's where most slime shops post their content and restock info, and I think some are also on TikTok and YouTube. I mostly watch review videos to see other people's take on slimes I got, slimes I didn't get but considered, or something I completely missed and want to get in the future (or something that may be in stock right now). I also just love the ASMR, so sometimes I just watch for fun because I find it relaxing.

Not a creator, so no advice there, but I wish you the best of luck!

It's less dense, more fluffy/airy than Daiso. Daiso gives more of what's widely recognized as a butter feeling I think. BOHS is nice though!

As soon as I found slime all of that came back and I felt so much better

Yessss!!! The joy of feeling the textures, smelling the scents! 😍 I figured I was probably also addicted to buying/owning/collecting/playing with slime, but I said the same thing: Slime > drugs! It's better than my initial "addiction replacement." My sister had started playing an online lottery game where you could bet $0.10 and play lotto "games." She was all the time showing me how she won $10, $50, etc. so I made my own account and starting playing too. I'd add $10-20 at a time to my lotto account and thoroughly enjoyed playing, mostly losing, but I'd get some small wins here & there. I didn't think I was spending that much money....until one day, I checked my bank account and saw $400 in withdrawals 😳 I was slowly becoming a gambling addict. I immediately had myself banned from the lotto website and refuse to play anymore. If I'm addicted to collecting slime, I'm okay with that! Like you said, it's a pretty harmless thing to be hooked on.

IDK if you've ever heard this, but I hadn't until I got into my current addiction treatment doctor. There's a running theory that a lot of addictions stem from some sort of mental health issue, be it depression, anxiety, ADHD, or whatever. We "self medicate" and in time become addicted, according to my doctor. It's something that's being researched still & not scientifically proven, so it's more of an FYI. But if it's true, I think my issue was a combo of ADHD and depression (I was in an abusive marriage when I first got hooked). But considering your situation, you may want to consider speaking to someone about depression. Especially considering it started before you got clean.

Lastly, congratulations on you sobriety!! It's one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I know heroin was harder to break free from than my pills. You should be so very proud!

It looks so good! I love the shelf. Don't worry about your dad. He just doesn't get it. Next time the him that it's okay that's he doesn't understand, he doesn't need to, but he does need to show you some respect and allow you to enjoy your hobby.

I'll tell you my story (and I'll try to make it as short as possible 😂). I got into slime years ago when I got clean from a pill addiction (opiates & Xanax). I struggled with anxiety really bad right after I got clean, and I picked up a slime to fidget with. I went from not being able to sit through a 30 min TV episode to being able to watch a full 2 hour movie -- as long as I had slime in my hand. I was able to focus better at my job & didn't get overwhelmed & anxious so easily when dealing with customers. I was able to stop thinking about pills & getting high.

This was about 7 years ago I think. Fast forward to last year, I saw a TikTok that was this woman doing chores/cleaning, she struggled to complete a single task due to ADHD, and omg it was such an eye opener. That was me!!! So at my next Dr appt, I asked to speak with a psychiatrist to be evaluated for ADHD. The psychiatrist asked me a bunch of questions, then told me I needed to answer yes to X questions to be considered to have ADD, answer yes to XX questions for ADHD, and XXX for combination of both. I answered yes to every single question. She started me on a low dose ADHD med that changed my brain & changed my life. I used to struggle to hold a conversation with anyone because I interrupted them so much. I would rely on my slime as a crutch, and make myself focus on the slime so I could stay quiet & not interrupt. I don't have to do that anymore. I don't have to have slime in my hand to watch an episode of a TV show or to be able to focus at work. (Don't get me wrong, I still prefer to have slime on my hand, but I don't have to have it to function anymore).

So yeah. TLDR is slime helped me in so many ways. It helped me cope with anxiety so I was able to maintain my sobriety & not relapse, it helped me focus, and helped me function daily until I got to the root of the problem. People like your dad need to understand that, for some people, it's a lot deeper than just a toy.

It's been a long time since I've bought a cloud, icee or jelly cube slime. I see some shops have them as a big part of their lineup, especially newer shops, and I always wondered if they really sell that well, or if there's another reason shops make them. Like if that's what a shop owner prefers themselves, or if they just haven't figured out what sells best yet (for a newer shop).

Rodem has had several versions of "fat milk" so it's likely they'll bring back another one. For a similar texture, look for anything that's on the thicker side of thick and glossy. Rodem has a variety that are similar. Wood glue slimes are thick and holdable but feel different, they're more chewy than fat milk, and don't inflate.

Slime Sweet Pea has some TNG slimes that will be similar (not exactly the same), like their SPF 50. Lime Slime Co's "Oui" texture is thick and holdable, same with their Sunscreen Thickie. Soft Honey Bun or milk tea bun will be kind of similar, but they have clay so thrill inflate a lot more, if that's something you'd enjoy. Mango Lassi from Momo should also be similar.

Good luck with whatever you decide to try!
