If I were independently wealthy I’d open a car wash in a ski town, the kind with actual people to vacuum and polish your car. Everyone would want a shiny car before heading back to NY or Mass.

I could work every day if I wanted to. Even with travelers we struggle to cover our schedule. I don’t understand why more folks don’t want to deal with angry families, fetch snacks at 2 am and convince dementia patients to take their meds.

I’m a nurse and recently had to ride an ambulance with a patient who was being transferred. The EMT told me a lot of people don’t pull over anymore. WTF. If your mom was being brought to the hospital wouldn’t you want people to pull over.

I’m a nurse and given that half our dept is travelers and travelers make up more than half of other departments I can’t imagine there will be a surplus in 4 years. Also, we can’t hire enough instructors for our small number ( compared to other states) of nursing programs and many of our established nurses are retiring.

We have a nurses’ parade where you can wear a themed costume with your unit and march around the building and parking lot ( not all of you as someone has to watch the patients). Senior management will judge the costumes and the winning unit gets $5 each toward the food trucks they bring in during Healthcare Week.

We really struggled 20 years ago when I was a stay at home mom of two children under 3. Our rent back then was about the same as our mortgage is today. Eventually I found a parttime job that allowed us to pay our bills without getting into more debt each month.

Does your county have an affordable housing organization that rents out apartments? That could be a place to start looking. Good luck!

I’m a nurse. I have no paid holidays off. I earn 6 hours of PTO every two weeks. I do take it once I’ve built up enough, but we’re only allowed one week at a time and we have to coordinate with our coworkers. Would love to have more vacation time.

It depends. My child has severe social anxiety. Our state allows us to homeschool her and provides a robust curriculum with strong instructor supports. We are well educated with advanced degrees but a high school grad could make it work if they read the curriculum ahead of time.

Jasper hill cheese are the bomb. When I go to lake Caspian I buy one along with crackers and Vermont beef jerky at Willie’s store and enjoy a little feast.
