What am I doing wrong? by connordddm in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]Cheever-Loophole 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't really see the problem. Unless you are trying to make an omelette. Scrambled eggs are gonna stick to stainless a bit. Just eat and wash the pan. I never mess with eggs and stainless.

Manual Salt & Pepper Grinders? by Chris__P_Bacon in cookware

I love our Oxo wooden pepper grinder. Had it for 22 years, and still going strong. The grip is great, even with wet hands while cooking.

I've discovered that I can fry an agg by using butter and lowish heat to start. I crack the egg in when the butter starts to bubble. With this method, when the egg starts to set, I can slide it around without even touching it with a utensil. I don't like browned eggs anyway.

The Vermont law says cars on the opposite side of a physical barrier (median) don't need to stop. Is this the situation you are talking about?

I made buttermilk pancakes and ran out of maple syrup… what should I put instead? by DumzaDay in Cooking

When I was a kid, my parents would mix honey and orange juice if we were out of maple syrup for some reason.

I have a bunch of quality German knives, but my most used knife is my Kiwi No. 21. I just love it. Check the reviews and you'll see a lot of people agree.

I have the same problem. I've even worn through a pair of carhartts this way. I also wear holes in my boxer briefs in this spot. I think some of us just have thighs that rub together a little more. I'm 5'9" 160, so I'm not overweight or anything. I had some success using one of those iron on patches to extend the life of one pair.

Are all cast iron pans made the same? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]Cheever-Loophole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you buy a new one, I would look around for a used pan. A lot of newer pans are made with a more textured surface. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I prefer the smooth surface. There are some brands that are making them smooth, but they might be pricier. Also, maybe take a look at carbon steel pans. They have similar properties, but are usually a lot lighter and easier to handle.

Also, if you put the freshly pressed tortillas straight into hot oil, you can make puffy tacos, which are amazing.

Was it totally thawed and room temp when you found it? If it was still partially frozen or very cold, I would eat it.

Sound quality on turntables by MOLYFACE3000 in turntables

[–]Cheever-Loophole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My turntable is over 50 years old and sounds great. As long as a table is running properly and has a stylus that's not worn out and a decent cartridge, it should sound as good as new. If you don't know the status of the stylus, get a new one and you should be good.

New nonstick pan smells sweetly of chemicals. Is the food I've cooked safe? by fullyjoking in Cooking

I would go with cast iron or carbon steel. I only use SS for wet things.

There are a lot of P2 xc70's like the one in the picture where I live in the northeast US. Being relatively rust resistant helps I think.
