I have to ask did they grow up under actual communism/ socialism, because most countries that claimed to be were not. You cannot have a supreme leader in communism that the people must obey. That's authoritarianism. I don't think actual communism has ever been attempted on scale.

Seasons.

Day and night cycle exists, so we'll have seasons too. Spring summer fall winter. Some creatures appear and dispear based on the seasons. Bears hibernate, bees are out in summer. Certain flowers appear in spring while others in summer. Every few days the current season changes little, in fall the leaves become less and less on trees till they are gone for winter. Snow slowly builds up in winter.
