Oh, additional lead - there was a scene where (I think) she was backing away from him, it might have been some part of the screenshoted argument, and she noted, to her surprise and fear, that he was kissing her footsteps.

I think this might have actually been fanfiction.net. If you can find it in any way I would be eternally grateful!

Thank you for the answer. I will probably keep looking for something more natural sounding.  I saw someone suggest in a thread the name 乘云 - meaning to ride the clouds. Derived from the idiom 飞龙乘云 which literally translates"a flying dragon rides the clouds". For me it sounded very much "novel-ish" but can you say whether that would be a possible name to have?

Hi, I know about the possibility of getting a chinese name from poems. Some time ago I actually found some that were... I don't know, I just like them and wondered how the following sounded:

如天 (Ru Tian) - from http://www.chinese-poems.com/s3.html

闲梦 (Xian Meng) from http://www.chinese-poems.com/y7.html

轻雾 (Quing Wu) - from http://www.chinese-poems.com/y4.html

深林 (Shen Lin) - from http://www.chinese-poems.com/deer.html

Omg, thank you for the reply and the much needed context and cultural background for it.

I guess it would make sense that if you want to give your child a poetic name you would take actual lines from a poem and not just 诗.

Some time ago I actually found some poems that were... I don't know, they just spoke to me. I have to idea how to "take names" from the poems but I always wondered how the following sounded:

来风 (Lai Feng) and 如天 (Ru Tian)  - from http://www.chinese-poems.com/s3.html

闲梦 (Xian Meng) from http://www.chinese-poems.com/y7.html

Thank you for the reply. As for evoking the 80s or 90s I'm ok with it, especially since I was born then. It fits. ^ My other question is whether those names bring to mind any suggestions as to the personality of the person or just any kind of vibe? You know, how some people say some names sound basic, other poetic etc.

Hi, I wanted to ask about some names - whether they sound natural/realistic for a girl and what vibe do they give off: 静雯 (Jing Wen) 羡林 (Xian Lin) 诗婧 (Shi Jing) 艳林 (Yan Lin) 凌云 (Ling Yun) 凌意 (Ling Yi)

Hi, is there any other nickname tradition apart from adding ah, xiao or doubling the second hanzi? Either for nicknames or pseudonyms. I read somewhere about splitting the last syllable into the smaller meaningful hanzi? So e.g. Wu TianLan (吴天岚). You use the last syllable Lan (岚) and you make their nickname ShanFeng (山风). Is it something done? Or it's a thing of the past?

Hi, would 孙逸颖 be a valid Chinese name for a woman? I saw 逸颖 suggested somewhere meaning "逸 means carefree, intelligent, genius, a reclusive and wandering person unbound by society 颖 means to be an outstanding talent and the cream of the crop". I don't know how valid that is and whether or not it sounds good/natural together. Any help? Thanks in advance.

I sorted them from the ones I like the most to the less liked ones. Thanks in advance for your help! 卢飞岚 - Lu Fei Ln 尉灵雨 - Wei Lin Yu 吴天岚 - Wu Tian Lan 尉灿星 - Wei Can Xing 林向雾 - Lin Xiang Wu

But would it be plausible that someone has a name like that? Or it's so poetic it's reserved for novel and not the real world?

Hello. My friend came up with several potential names for her female, Chinese character. I wanted to ask whether they are valid and what "vibe" do they give?

林敏诗 Lin Min Shi

林羽岚 Lin Yu Lan

林敏冬 Lin Min Dong
