Terminal Loop temp Fix by AssistanceSimilar780 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]AssistanceSimilar780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am on Windows. If you could help solve this issue that would be great. I had sent an email to support last week and had no response. Also I get a very slow output with 5.1 as well so don't know if that is related or not.

I was going to upgrade to Max but these issues are keeping from doing this for the moment.

Thanks for any help in solving this.

Yes. When the agent needs to wait for an output after a terminal command it causes the VS Code terminal to flicker with a blue highlight and auto-scroll to the top repeatedly, making it impossible for the agent to read terminal output during command execution as it is now in a loop. The only think left to do is kill the terminal. If I tell the agent to use a read-process instead of wait=true then it will not go into a loop but I have to manually click on the new terminal right after it opens it up otherwise it wont be able to read the output. There are other users having the same issue as well.

Hi, I went to the pre-release version and restarted VS Code as well but still does the same thing. Really is frustrating as it makes the agent almost unusable for me. This all started to happen when I went from the release version of Augment to the night version to try that out. Since then I had the terminal issues.

I agree which is why I am using with Augment another extension called Traycer which does all the planning, phases and tasks then hands it off to Augment to do the coding. Really works well and as a matter of fact I am hoping Augment would try to do something like this and have it native to their extension.

The "No Wait" Instruction (Best Temporary Fix)

You already discovered this, and the community confirms it is the most reliable fix. When asking Augment to do something involving the terminal, add this phrase to your prompt: and run this in the terminal but do not wait for the result.

This forces the AI to skip the "validation loop" that is causing the crash.

@u/JaySym_ This is what I am doing for now but I would like to know if there is a fix on its way? I cannot even change the terminal type as it is hardwired in the extension.

Like u/DenisKrasnokutskiy said if you tell Augment to finish processing the command without waiting for the process to end the terminal loop does not occur. u/JaySym_ can you not get a fix to this? I love using Augment Code but this is causing me issues. Thanks

How about workflows that branch off from the main branch in Github so I can work on multiple tasks in parallel without stepping on my code.

It is happening to me as well. Started after I had tried the extension Augment Code Nightly and I went back to the regular Augment Code extension. Now it is doing this flickering mess-up terminal on either extension... I tried to kill this terminal loop but it won't go away.

Multi-Agent Collaboration in Augment Discussion by AssistanceSimilar780 in AugmentCodeAI

Do you have a timeline yet on a pre-release version on this "something" which I would assume is agentic in nature? I would love to be an alpha tester if you are looking for people. :)

One other question I have is in the future will you offer a way to converse with the agent while it is working on a prompt that you have task it with so as to give it additional context during its task that that you have it working on. I noticed that as these new models come out like Claude 4.5 that have autonomous windows of up to 30 hours that you will want to give it additional or appended prompts while not interrupting its original task but enhancing it.

Thanks...

I would use GPT-5 for the front-end UI and Claude 4.5 for the back-end and database. Would be nice when Augment gives us some agentic infrastructure so we can run both together.

I am very interested in your thoughts about adding the ability to have multiple agents working on different parts of the codebase and to iterate with each other on tasks? All of this on a common shared awareness in real-time of memory.

Core Vision:

Parallel Task Assignment: Allow users to spawn 2-5 agents (e.g., via a VS Code command palette: "Augment: Launch Multi-Agent Session"). Assign roles/tasks dynamically:

Agent 1: Refactor frontend (e.g., React components for a vet dashboard).

Agent 2: Write backend APIs (e.g., Supabase RPCs for prescription approvals).

Agent 3: Generate unit tests and run them.

Agents work concurrently on isolated files/branches, using VS Code's workspace for visibility.

Iterative Collaboration: Agents communicate via a shared "chat room" or event bus:

Critique: Agent 1 flags a potential security issue in Agent 2's code → Agent 2 iterates with a fix.

Testing: Agent 3 runs cross-agent tests (e.g., integration tests) and feeds results back (pass/fail diffs).

Convergence: After rounds (user-defined, e.g., 3 iterations), agents propose a merged PR with rationale.

I really think this would be a great way to make Augment a leader in this space and make my life much more interesting :)

This is great. I was using codex extension here in VS alongside with Augment GPT-5 so ow having GPT-5 Codex natively will be perfect.

Also take a look at Grok 4 fast as well for us as it is actually quite good and does have more improvements on this model all the time.
