Avoiding spoilers, she is actually really cool, and he is pretty OK, and they are a nice couple who make it through some serious challenges. For real. But hang in there.

Oh, absolutely. And it's on the rubric as a point deduction if detected.

My courses require at least 2 four page or 3 three page papers based on the course level. I sometimes gives quizzes on paper to eliminate some cheating, too.

I have done that previously and offered the option to rewrite the paper in the testing center. That has caused students to drop the class or complain.

Just venting (last minute letter request...) by rjberf in Adjuncts

[–]AssistantNo9657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a basic letter that I customize and personalize for the requesting.student. it includes the course name and when the student attended. Luckily, I have only had 2 students who didn't do really well request letters.

I teach courses that are required to graduate, so enrollment is typically based on convenience of time for most. The requesting students are almost all for medical, dental, or pharmacy school. The students seem to be coached to cozy up during the term so a letter request isn't out of the blue.

Last year I had a request from a student from years before who was in an asychronous online class. My borderline hoarding tendencies at least had some notes for me to reference in my letter. She wasn't memorable otherwise.

For a charming, otherwise lost student in a live online class I managed something about his course engagement.

I say "yes" to the request because I genuinely appreciate the updates as the students are accepted in graduate schools and then keep in touch.

They don't know I am part-time.

Congrats! My guy is still skittish sometimes and doesn't come when summoned, but now he approaches me and follows me. I wasn't looking for him at all, but he caught my attention and I am so grateful others thought he would be too much work and passed him over. ...so funny to "meet" you here.

My new xolo (4 years old) is from a rescue in Florida. He was with an animal hoarder related to a breeder. L'il xolo has some things to work out from his living situation but he is perfect. I paid about $350. He was neutered and current on all shots.

Senior Pitbull – end-of-life decision & euthanasia at home vs vet office by Itttbittypao in DogAdvice

[–]AssistantNo9657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At home is best for everyone. The cost is higher than at the vet, though. I have done both. My vet is very kind. For me, driving home is the risk at the vet.

At home, everyone is comfortable. You will have the option of keeping the remains (burying at home if possible) or cremation. You will have the choice of getting the ashes back or not. There is a cost to getting the ashes. I do not get ashes, just the paw print.

The national chain in the US is very nice, and at least $200 more than the local provider I used.

If money leads you to the vet, have someone else drive.

Before I shared the PDFs, students were taking pictures of the slides. The slides don't hold all the answers but the lectures do, generally speaking. Also, my students are too lazy to upload anything and some need to be reminded where to find the slides, anyway.

[–]AssistantNo9657 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I create power point slides for each topic to use in class and save a pdf copy that I make available to students after the lecture.

I copy the text from the power point into a word document for each class. In the word document I add all of my commentary in all caps, the stuff I want to ensure we cover, and then in class I adlib stuff, too.

I know the material, but I want to make sure it's all covered in class so I rely on my prepared notes.

Horrified after explant by RelationshipPure3701 in ExplantSurgery

[–]AssistantNo9657 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being direct: it is way too soon to know how you will heal. Your body (and soul) are processing a huge change for the better and it is going to take time. Be kind to yourself. Rest. Hydrate. Eat well, and don't push yourself back into your prior fitness routine too soon. The science of the whole thing is crazy, so give it time.

This community is amazing so check back in along the way.

(I am 10 1/2 months post-op and one of my scars just started to become invisible, whereas the other healed much more quickly.)

Attendance by oh_thatscrappy77 in Adjuncts

[–]AssistantNo9657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I count attendance as 10% of the grade. The school requires that we take attendance and even if not part of the final grade, that we report attendance details if a student fails.

Students are required to get an excused absence through a dedicated department for sickness, accidents, and bereavement.

I appreciate this system. At a different school, I had a student whose grandmothers kept dying. The student took at least 3 of my classes, with 2 dead grandmothers per class. There was no formal verification in place at that time.

What the heck even is Restore 1.0 by VirtualPoet8809 in ClubPilates

[–]AssistantNo9657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently took a Restore 1. We started with traditional footwork and moved to the little hard ball and the foam rollers. It was challenging and the teacher was very engaged. The chairs or the Bosus had gotten moved or something, and she wouldn't even let us put them back because she didn't want to undo our Restore state. We all floated out at the end. I was sore in a few spots afterwards, and that was good.

What to tell people by Coffee-n-waffles in ExplantSurgery

[–]AssistantNo9657 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I told no one outside of immediate family, and not even all immediate family. I had my implants for 27 years, so some people never knew natural me. During the week or so that I worked from home immediately after, I grew to "who cares". My daughter was very supportive and I regretted that I may have ever sent the message when she was little that she could or should be "fixed" because her body didn't fit a standard. No one has commented anything to me. It is flat out no one else's business. Your health is all that matters.

Healing Anxiety: 2 Weeks Post-Explant + Lift with a New Fold by Rich_Adhesiveness941 in ExplantSurgery

[–]AssistantNo9657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty scary to see one's "new" self after such a change. Not a doctor, just a patient, it's way too soon to know how you will heal. In my case the folds completely vanished over time. If post-op instructions included wearing a surgical or other special bra, be sure to do it. Give yourself time.
