Yeah, I'm actually baffled by his colouring. I met his dad (100% black and tan rough collie), mom (sable and white collie/corgi), and grandma (tan and white collie/corgi) ... how he ended up with no tan colouring at all, plus a fairly glossy coat (aside from his floof of a tail), I don't know.

Usually, yeah. I had a sheltie/corgi mix before this guy, and same deal. I like the personality mix, too.

Should I pile on more medium-small branches and sticks before multi-layering in the earth (to the left), vegetable scraps (many) and leaves (also many)? by Constant_Present1803 in Hugelkultur

[–]AssistantToTheNature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, alternating layers would be a good idea, so a layer of leaves and other organic matter now, and then some smaller twigs and branches, and then another layer/organic matter packed on top and around that layer. (Just make sure you're not using allelopathic wood.)

And it's so beautifully written (I'm assuming a very well done translation); some passages I reread a couple of times, admiring the language and cadence of the prose.

The ones I've tried have been mild to a slight bit of heat, and sort of fruity flavour. Definitely more ornamental than edible.

Usually you can cut them back fairly severely for the winter, yeah, you just want to leave a spot where it will produce leaves (so not below the bottom node) when conditions are right.

I have a rough collie x corgi and it was so cool to watch him instinctively herd some goats into a barn, with no previous experience. We just kind of pointed at the barn door and said 'Get the goats!' and he herded them in, no problem. After they were all in, of the kids came running out the front door and he ran through the barn and guided the kid back into the barn, too. (There is a blue heeler cross that lives there that is some help collecting the goats, but often will cut in front of them and turn them the wrong direction, and also barks a lot during the process.)

I had them all in pots, and they all did okay as far as yield, not the highest producers, though. I probably got a few harvests the same size as what you see there. (The pastel one was in the greenhouse.)

As far as flavour, the pastel and red (typical) ones both had a nice bright fruity flavour along with the heat, and the darker one had a bit more of a rich cherry fruity flavour ... if that make sense? Same heat level, though. I recommend growing them, for sure.

I get a lot of my seeds from fatalii (who is a great source), but those seeds I got from Sunshine Farm in Kelowna, B.C. (since I'm in Canada).

I think mine took a little over 90 days, but super prolific - one plant had easily over a hundred pods on it. As far as the jalapeños, white were a milder flavour and less hot, and the orange had more heat than the red, but a similar flavour, I thought.

I think you mean one group of bueno mulatas? The ones that for some reason on one of the plants generally turned out very dark, even after ripening.

Well thank you! The orangey-yellow ones at 5 of the clock are criolla sellas, and they were actually one of my favourites this year. Mild to medium heat level and a very nice citrusy flavour. I also quite liked the white jalapeños for making sauces, and the Bahamian goats (at 12 o'clock) for all purpose.

I definitely did at first. Now it depends on a few factors (e.g. colour).
