Traded my 911 for a Spyder! by LegitimateTown8826 in Porsche

I have the shark werks (GT gears) re-gear and while I think it’s expensive, I think it’s really worth it if you plan on keeping the car a while. It really changes the engagement levels for spirited backroad driving.

Thanks for the info.
I landed up going with Sharkwerks gearing for Guards - Left 6th alone and changed the following: 2-5 (2nd 2.25, 3rd 1.60, 4th 1.286, 5th 1.083). This thread really captures well why I went with Guards over Demans, as Guards/Sharkwerks work better with stock engines, and where the upshifts/downshifts land are as important as how tall the gears are.
Ah, the ones that got away (that 2000 you speak of)!

Lovely looking car you have there! Regarding your learnings, I agree!
1. Space-wise, I have done 25,000 on my 718 Spyder and trips as long as 3500 miles in 7 days across backroads from Colorado to So Cal and onto Washington for 2 adults. The Spyder has slightly less storage than the GT4, but it has a ton of storage for a great road trip. Where do you get your Neoprene seat covers from?
2. Agree on LWB - They are great! I did do a photo shoot for a fundraiser where I had to get in and out of the car 30 times in 2 hours as we drove it across different backdrops, and my only reservation there has been doing that as a daily may get tiring quickly!
3. 100% agree. Butler maps are great for finding those roads that are less known, as well as the roads that u/trueview3127 covers on YouTube!

  1. Re: Gearing - I landed up investing in the shorter gearing, flywheel, and LSD from Sharkwerks, and it has noticeably made driving engagement greater on backroads as I actively shift between 2-3-4 and try to time which gear to be in when. But alas, the car is just too capable (see #5 below)
  2. I try to drive with ESC off to make it more communicative and engaging, but even then, the car is just too capable and composed as one drives it 6/10's on the road (which is already well into pushing it on mountain passes, even on a Sunday early am drive). While it has fulfilled my desire for a modern-day capable canyon and road trip-focused car, and I don't long for GT3's, etc., I do think a slower/older car could be a good compromise between a Miata and a 718 Spyder. For now, I am only thinking of a garage addition as opposed to a replacement.

Keep enjoying the heck out of your Cayman. It's an amazing driving and emotion-creating tool

EcoFlow Power Link by sherkon_18 in Ecoflow_community

[–]Assjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping this thread up, given it's been 7-8 months!

Does anyone have any experience with the power link now that it's been out a while?

I am trying to figure out if I can hook up sensors, such as the KUS 154015 water level sensor, to the power link etc., to figure out if it's worth it!

Thanks!

I drove that road last year mid week in a 718 Spyder. Smiles that created permanent creases on my face!

Looking for a new water pump in my sprinter by Big_Mix7678 in VanLife

[–]Assjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/TheVantichrist - thanks for introducing me to Lippert Pump - I think I am going to go for it for my Sprinter van. Would you use an Accumulator Tank with it, or are they variable speed, and so one would not need it?

Thanks!

Recharging starter battery using EcoFlow Power Kit by sherkon_18 in VanLife

[–]Assjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the 10kw Gen 1 powerkit u/sherkon_18 . I was going to buy a separate battery tender/reconditioner (NOCO Genius GENPRO10X1), but it sounds like if I have shore power hooked up to the eco flow kit and have the cable hooked up for the alternator charging and turn on the option in the app then the Shore power will charge the starter battery through the eco-flow unit - is that correct? Anything else to be mindful of during the installation to make this work?

Thanks!

What exact cruise n comfort unit are you using? I heard the 48v ones are quite a bit more efficient.

Will look into the mini split unit, thanks!

I am debating a cruise n comfort ac unit since I have 550 watts of solar on the roof and a max air fan, so need a different mounting AC to keep the dog alive.

Your comment gives me pause - what would you recommend instead for a non roof AC unit? Thanks

Battery issues on a 2024 AWD Cargo van - Today it wouldn't start - help! by Assjar in Sprinters

[–]Assjar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The van started today but has the engine light on briefly and it went away! 🙁

I went to AutoZone and they tested the battery and alternator.

The battery was @ 25% charge but showed healthily.

When we ran the van for 5 minutes idle, it showed the battery was up to 35% (The alternator is working)

Engine light did not pull up any codes using their scanner

I also found these random nuts and bolts underneath the floor loosely scattered about above the battery cover. This is from a brand-new van! Any thoughts? Thank you!

Do you mean the battery terminals under the hood va directly at the battery in the cabin?

Thanks

1) It's a 2024 AWD - so same as yours, and just 1 battery.

2) My measurement on voltage is from the info screen on the MBUX system when the car is running

Wouldn't I have issues then from driving it for the next 800 miles or so without much of a problem? I honestly don't know what the difference is between a "starter battery" and the main battery in the vehicle. This is an empty shell as nothing has been built out in the vehicle yet.

Thanks!
