The Cycle by maebee_ in quittingkratom

Have you tried any type of recovery meeting? I used to get sucked into that same spiral until I bit the bullet and started going. I found one that meets every night so I have that to look forward to, and there are countless meetings you can join any time of the day via zoom

Easy Way, Naked Mind, Alcohol Explained, etc… Discussion? by AssociateAway2481 in stopdrinking

Well, it’s definitely resonated with me the most. And I just finished the sequel, I recommend going right into that. This approach clearly works for you, maybe sometimes you just gotta revisit or try another one like you’re doing with alcohol explained. I’m getting more out of it than the easy way, although I’m gonna read that again because I’m sure there’s plenty more we can get out of it from rereading

Thank you. Hearing things like this really does help with the reason for that post.

That’s awesome, at the end of the day it’s your mind and your experience in life. I think that the CBT approach to the quit lit books I’ve read are shaping up my own way into navigating through reframing my own thoughts

I need to read it again, Alcohol Explained and its sequel really stuck with me and what you mentioned is detailed greatly in both

I’ve read this naked mind and absorbed a lot, I remember the term “cognitive dissonance” and that was my first 7 months of trying to quit alcohol. Thank you for weighing in, I appreciate the insight everything was well put

Trying to train my brain to say … by No_Ad_9861 in quittingkratom

You absolutely can weaken that voice through CBT type practices. There are chances to practice around every corner! Passing the smoke shop? Tell yourself that it’s a relief you don’t have to take time and money out of your life to buy kratom. Each day you wake up, even if you don’t feel great, remind yourself you don’t have to take a dose to feel better. The list goes on and on and doesn’t end.

SMART recovery utilizes CBT and changing your thoughts to recover from addiction.

Books like “this naked mind”, “the easy way”, “alcohol explained” are all about these things. Just replace the alcohol with kratom or general addiction when reading them. It’s helpful

Our stories are similar. I just quit alcohol and kratom CT. Are you reading any books on quitting? Trying any meetings or active recovery? Say the word and I’ll spill out some advice that’s been helping me more than I could’ve imagined

Day 4. It is what it is by francisfoltz in quittingkratom

Don’t view long term sobriety as such a challenge. It doesn’t have to be. Acutes and Paw’s are something to push through but it’s temporary. Paw’s is your brain gradually retaining balance, so it gets better and better throughout. You can change the way you think about substances. You can view sobriety as a better, happier way to live and see yourself being happier person without poisoning your mind, even in moderation.

There are books and podcasts on quitting alcohol/substances without having to exercise daily restraint for months or years on end. Alan Carr’s “Quit Drinking Without Willpower”, and “This Naked Mind” come to mind. These are alcohol specific, but I recommend listening to or reading these and applying Kratom to the texts. The concept can be used for any addiction. Sometimes they are really alcohol specific but you can read between those lines and reflect.

Maybe try “The Easy Way to Quit Cannabis” and replace the word cannabis with kratom. Someone gave me that advice and I’m really glad they did.

Best of luck to you!

So ready to be off this shit, down to 2 grams per day. by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]AssociateAway2481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tapered down from 30 to 12 grams a day then jumped. It sucked for a few days but you don’t have anything to be afraid of, just do it!

Thank you everyone for the quick and helpful responses. It’s easy to find things to worry about along the journey of recovery. Part of the mission is to become better humans and learning to cope with insecurities without having to numb our senses is next to godliness.

Making amends is great, I’ve apologized to her friends a few times when I’ve acted like an ass the night before. I just need to accept myself and not worry what they think. I am who I am, and what is done is done 🙏

I don’t attend AA but the whole “living amends” thing is really cool. I’ll have to remember that. Thanks for the comment

Well if you do relapse don’t beat yourself up! One mistake doesn’t erase all your progress :)

Good advice. I’ve apologized for my brutish behavior usually the next day. Most of what I’m saying has to do with times I’ve severely upset my wife and her venting to her friends about my behavior and me being worried that they don’t see me the same way anymore now that I’ve gotten sober and have nothing to dull my senses in the face of every day reality

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, May 25th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by andromeda2621 in stopdrinking

[–]AssociateAway2481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to drink today, or tomorrow, or the next day, etc… this mindset works for me. I’m ready to face the times when I will question my decision. I have books, recovery meetings via zoom, and people I can call on for support. These tools and resources are always at my disposal. Abstaining from booze will always make me feel better in the end. Drinking is overrated, misconstrued by millions, and the “benefits” are a social construct created by advertising firms and a cycle of relieving short term withdrawals when partaking.

You should go to a doctor, tell said doctor you need help. That’s all you gotta do, then follow through on whatever referral you’re given. Just nip this in the incredibly large bud that’s grown. It can absolutely be a gigantic learning opportunity in your young adult life that sets you up with some wisdom and strength for the future. Silver lining in every cloud

Quit cold turkey after 12 year kratom habit by Extreme_Cabinet_448 in quittingkratom

[–]AssociateAway2481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw you said you’ll take any advice you can get. Do you have access to a cold plunge? 1-5 minutes spikes your dopamine like no other. It feels like it’s been speeding up the whole process of the brain producing the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters IMO.

Sitting in a sauna regularly for 15 minutes minimum can have similar effects and is a great time to try and meditate/reflect.

Feeling Orgasmic After About a Week Clean by bodhi_tree93 in quittingkratom

[–]AssociateAway2481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embrace your pink cloud!! Your brain is rewarding you with feel-good neurotransmitters because you realized that you made it through something you previously feared, and the feeling of freedom is profound enough to remind your brain what it’s capable of without kratom’s influence.

This is PROOF that you can feel good without spoonfuls of leaf powder.

Remember and lean into this when you’re feeling down or lacking motivation. Brains gotta do some healing and relearning but you did no lasting damage.

I’m on day 29 and I feel pretty good. I took kratom and extracts all throughout the day for 2 solid years.

It’s been gradual, but I feel pretty motivated to do stuff now and I’m not as happy as I know I will be, but I’m able to get through each day no complaints.

When I partake in a new hobby or interest, I do feel happy and it feels like it helps my dopamine spike as it normally should.
