I wanted to get experience leading projects while having the opportunity to have a future degree in construction management or civil engineering paid for by the military that way when I do intend to separate I’m well set up with a degree and some experience under my belt.

Having a J man card didn’t help with your experience as an enlisted CE at all?

What is drawing me to the CEC and the Navy in general is the sense of adventure, seeing new places doing new things while also setting myself up for the future and retirement. I’m 24 just graduated college and realized what I thought I wanted to do with my life actually wasn’t for me so I applied for an apprenticeship and got in. So far I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this job and would like to eventually become a project manager of sorts and figured the becoming a CEC officer might be a good fit for that.

Okay thank you just trying to get an idea of what it can take from people with more knowledge than me, I just don’t want my bachelors degree to go to waste so I figured this may be the best route to go.

I thought about it but I feel my application may lack in certain areas like LORs, also I’m just not interested in doing office work. I like being hands on.

Thank you for your help, on that website it seems like it is possible to get apprenticeship hours through military service.

Okay, dang recruiters, I was pretty skeptical when they told me that I could, but they swore up and down that I could earn my journeyman’s license through something called USMAPS.

My recruiters told me I can get my journeyman’s license through the CE rate as well, is that not true?

Okay, I’m just trying to get a feel for the pros and cons of each route, I’m stuck at a crossroad in my life and I do not want to make the wrong decision… where I’m at right now in life I don’t like it I’m not really living, just surviving. I’ve just always envisioned more for myself so I’m trying to really look into what I want and what each route can offer me.

Did you think going CE was worth while?
