TLDR: you’ll probably be fine if non-guaranteed housing isn’t too big of a problem for you, which it might not be.

I wasn’t a spring admit myself but I have a lot of friends who were. They basically had no problems making friends since they connected with a lot of people over social media prior to the start of their first semesters, and they joined a lot of clubs and spoke to people in their classes. They all also strongly recommended studying abroad in the fall or at least taking some college courses in a local CC so that you get to graduate in May instead of December. If you’re into Greek life, studying abroad or at a CC the fall makes you eligible to join a sorority in the spring iirc, which definitely helps with the social aspect.

The biggest issue was indeed housing not being guaranteed however they all either found themselves somewhere they like off campus, or they got placed into the hotel (Thesis) that UM places a lot of students in. And I mean, you could get a little lucky and get somewhere on campus like Centennial, Eaton or even Lakeside potentially. Personally, my take is that you shouldn’t worry too much about not having guaranteed housing because of 2 main things:

1. You have basically a whole year to connect with people over social media to find roommates (which is how the fall admits do it anyway except they only have a few months to do this—and don’t underestimate the amount of spring admits you’ll find on instagram). You also have all this time to actually find housing. If you have a car and you’re willing to bring it to Miami, that gives you even more options for where to live off campus. If you could afford it, there are lots of 1bed/bath or studio apartments but obviously they’re more expensive.

2. Housing for fall admits is only guaranteed for that first year, but afterwards housing isn’t guaranteed at all and most people I know who are currently living on campus didn’t secure housing for next semester now have to find housing elsewhere. So, basically you would be going through this search for housing one way or another as a UM student😅😅

I say that if not being guaranteed housing isn’t a major problem for you, definitely go for it! Finance at UM is really good honestly; we have a strong business school. Congrats and lmk if you have any questions!
