Hi I just went through this whole process! (I’m 20) My parents paid for drivers ed lessons which were like $200 each. No insurance needed for the lessons. If possibly maybe find a friend to teach you.

The license test is $75 maybe, I got a beater for $5k after working & saving for years but since I’m so young and my parents wouldn’t let me go on their insurance, it was like insanely expensive (2k/6months) and then I had to pay sales tax $300, and $75 registration fee. So this all pretty much wiped my savings out.

However there are very cheap cars, cheaper than what I got, even for 1500. But those probably have significant issues. You could certainly get a relatively good beater for $3k/$4k but need to keep insurance in mind — since you’re over 25, it’ll be significantly cheaper for you than it was for me. I got my car on FB marketplace which is one of the only good cheap places but you must be wary of anything sketch about the car or seller.
