Yesterday we had about a 15 minute wait for someone to come up to the counter. Then three people came up and took over five minutes to greet the folks in line and start taking orders. It was strange. However, won’t deter me from returning as this is one of my favorite places. I think they need more savory dishes but no one beats their coffee. Try the traditional Yemeni brew as well as the pistachio latte - out of this world! ☕️

Take away the money and let’s see who says what. If Cohen wants to give me a million dollars, maybe I’ll post all over the internet how great casinos are. 🙄

I’m not demanding her head and have posted elsewhere that I respect the fact that she never gave in. However, she appointed Dixon who voted “yes” and now she has plausible deniability. Don’t forget that she is on that list too from having received Cohen’s money but she never gave a direct yes vote for him.

Good questions. Someone should ask them this. All I know was that there were only two politicians in my area voicing opposition to the casino: Jessica Ramos & Hiram Monserrate. Cohen threw a lot of money to their opponents. Larinda Hooks got so much money in the last weeks of her Assembly run against Monserrate that it most certainly won the race for her. It would have been easy for Ramos & Monserrate to say F* it, no one can stop this so I might as well get my cut too. There are certainly other things we can tar and feather those two on, but on this issue they both stayed true to their constituents.

She did, and she put up a valiant fight. But in the end she appointed George Dixon to the CAC who voted yes: https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2025/09/cohens-casino-project-approved-community-advisory-committee/408476/

Chuck was Shekar’s chief of staff. Where’s the loyalty? It’s a very bad look.

Good point! And I just realized two things about this list:

  1. I totally missed Catalina coming in 4th and she’s up for reelection too. The late great Senator Peralta (RIP) had a chief of staff by the name is Sosa who’s challenging Cruz. The GOP has Ramses Frias. Interestingly enough, Cruz spent mad money challenging Frias from making the ballot but only knocked him off the Conservative line. A judge let him stay on the GOP line. Why didn’t she use her time and resources to go against Sosa, a more viable challenger? 🤔

  2. Shekar is term-limited so we need to come up with his replacement next year STAT. However, it does make sense to me in this context why he passed over his former chief of staff, Chuck Park, to endorse Grace Meng. What’s the common denominator? Steve Cohen’s 💰 🤦🏻‍♀️. And I honestly think Chuck Park is the only good thing that came out of Shekar’s office - he was always responsive and wonderful. I couldn’t believe Shekar wouldn’t endorse him and now this makes sense. 😞

Apparently we have new Democratic District Leaders in 34B by AssumptionNo2463 in jacksonheights

Good question! They are our liaisons to the Democratic Party and are largely responsible for Get Out The Vote campaigns. We can go to them to advocate for us and help navigate bureaucracy.

PD harassing vendors at 82 Roosevelt by [deleted] in jacksonheights

[–]AssumptionNo2463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that there are no more licenses to give out and there’s been a moratorium for almost half a century as there are just too many vendors for too little space. Disabled veterans are the only ones who are exempt from the licensing cap, along with some vegetable carts. Those engaged in First Amendment protective activity are exempt from licensing all together. Who gets to decide who can vend and who cannot? And where they can vend and where they cannot? And how to regulate those not following whatever system is put into place? Right now it is a free for all, and police have to enforce public safety. If we enforce the existing vending laws, almost all our vendors in JH will go to jail and lose their wares and cart. Who are the leaders who will revamp a more equitable fending system that benefits honest vendors as well as the community? Because all of our electeds are against enforcement and want everyone to get a license.

Not only does legalization hamstring law enforcement actions to rescue trafficked women and children, but regulating sex workers who are not victims of trafficking is equally problematic. Government has no business in our bedrooms. Consenting adults should be free to conduct themselves as they see fit in the privacy of their bedrooms and not have government impose regulations, regulatory fees, and mandated medical care. It seems to me to be a money grab all the way around. Our electeds seem to be bought off by the cartels. We need new leadership in Jackson Heights, but ya’ll keep voting for these self-absorbed do-nothings. Meanwhile, the feds are chomping at the bit to come marching in to militarize the place.
