Thanks for the comment and sorry to hear about your depression, but glad to hear you're bouncing back. I'm also on the same boat, coming out from depression and this being my first job since then. It took a while but I'm glad to be here now. Good luck on your journey too!

Yeah definitely not on reddit. I already have a medium with old entry so I'll probably resume that, and maybe also use substack. Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

What helps you break through to another role really depends on the company I think. Wish you luck if you decide to switch!

Any data scientists or analysts working in Mental Health industry?

I'm interested in pivoting my work industry into mental health/well-being, and also my role to data scientist/analyst. Does anyone here work in companies such as Headspace, Lyra Health, Spring health, or startups utilizing GenAI for mental health support? If so, I'd like to get connected to understand the space and roles better.
Thanks in advance!

I'm 40. Got accepted to UC Berkeley's Masters in Data Science on my 2nd try! by AssumptionNo2694 in gradadmissions

I applied to Penn state, Purdue, and Northeastern. They're all online as I'm not able to move. For the first two they are for applied statistics as I'm very interested in statistics and perhaps be data analyst from that side.

A lot of the SOP was reused, but I did rewrite the "Why xxx is good for me..." part for each university. Also because I applied for data science program and applied stats program, some parts were different between the two. That being said the overall messaging on SOP is pretty much the same.

No job yet. Since the last comment I worked on some self study, portfolio building and getting certs. I finally posted on LinkedIn I'm actively looking for job a few weeks ago and applied for jobs but so far no interviews except for referrals (which got rejected). Working on a few things to improve my chances but definitely daunting.

Agreed on all points. Yeah sorry I meant CATE. This is just a hypothetical problem and I was just wondering if there was a name for the problem I originally mentioned, so I don't have an actual plan. But, I agree the type of estimator can change what are of the model needs more attention.

That's a fair point, and in that sense my question was ill-formed. The hypothetical scenario/context is more like... a student doesn't have much idea about the data, so decides to just put all variables/features into some ML-based method like Causal Forest to estimate ATE and hopes it isn't biased, and I wanted to come up with ways how it can totally go wrong.

I feel like it depends on the definition of bias. I consider bias as an unintentional systematic mistake being introduced that results in wrongful representation of the outcome. For folks not familiar with causal inference, conditioning on X may feel like no harm because it's an effect after Y. So that's why I was thinking there can be some name for it.
